- So I'm really wondering where I should go on holiday this year. People have told me Spain's really nice. What do you think? Have you ever been?
- Yeah, I went to Madrid actually. I spent two weeks in Madrid during the summer.
- Oh cool, like, two weeks. That's quite a long time isn't it? Whereabouts did you go to in Madrid?
- Well I stayed with a friend and she lives in the centre so I stayed with her and we just travelled around and we went around the city as well, so all the neighbouring villages.
- Oh that's really nice, you saw quite a lot of Madrid then. What types of things did you do there?
- Mainly just sightseeing, but then one night we went to a movie family effort and an animated movie because her cousin's boyfriend is trying to be a director so he worked with Sony and they made this movie and I got a free ticket out of it.
- That was really cool. Was the movie good?
- I didn't understand much of it because I don't speak Spanish but I could follow it.
- That's good. What was it about, the movie?
- It was about three mice I think. They went on an adventure but I can't really remember but I knew that the kids liked it.
- That's all that matters then, that random was the three mice. Did you sample any Spanish food when you were there?
- I did actually. Her grandma who is from Seville came and made traditional dishes for us so she made paella and I had lots of chorizo and lots of wine which was good.
- What was your favourite out of what you had? Did you have a specific favourite dish that you ate or not really?
- Not really, I went to Tapa and I genuinely loved all of it.
- That's pretty good so you definitely recommend going to Madrid?
- Yeah definitely, especially in the summer.
- Was it really hot then when you went?
- Yeah it was boiling but instead of like Barcelona where it's really sticky and hot it's really dry so it's quite nice.
- So it's quite bearable then. Okay cool. I definitely think about going to Madrid.

The Roaring Twenties is a nickname for the 1920s in the United States. It was a time of hope, prosperity, and cultural change. With the economy and the stock market booming, people were spending money on entertainment and consumer goods.

The optimism of the early 1920s was largely due to the end of the World War I in 1918. The United States had been on the winning side of the war and had emerged from the war as a major world power.

Sometimes the Roaring Twenties is also called the "Age of Jazz." Jazz music became very popular across the United States. People listened to it on the radio and heard live jazz bands at dance halls.

With all the optimism and the booming economy, people were buying lots of products on credit. The overall debt of the country grew rapidly. At the same time, people were speculating on the stock market. Stock values soared and people thought they would go up forever. However, on October 29, 1929, the stock market crashed. This day is known as Black Tuesday and it signaled the beginning of the Great Depression.

Do you know why we celebrate Thanksgiving? We celebrate Thanksgiving because of the Pilgrims and Native Americans.
- The Pilgrims lived in England. They were persecuted for their religion and thus could not have their own church.
- So in the fall of 1620, they left their homes for a new land, far away.
- The Pilgrims crossed the ocean on a ship called the Mayflower. The winds blew, the ship rocked, the Pilgrims prayed that it would not sink.
- After many months, the boat stopped in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The Pilgrims thanked God for keeping them safe.
- The Pilgrims built their homes, winter came. Icy winds blew, snow fell, there was not much food to eat. Many Pilgrims died.
- The end of winter came and the snow melted. The Pilgrims built barns. They planted weeds, beans, potatoes and spinach.

One day, three Native Americans came to visit. The Wompanoag tribe, as they were called, looked different, spoke a different language and wore different clothes. In Spring, one member of the tribe stayed to help the Pilgrims.
His name was Squanto. Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to hunt and fsh. He gave them seeds and showed them how to plant corn, pumpkins and squash. The vegetables grew, the Pilgrims fllled their barns with food. The next winter, they would have enough to eat. Soon, other Wompanoags visited the Pilgrims. They signed a paper that said they would not harm each other. The Pilgrims invited their Native Americans friends to a great feast. For three days, they ate turkey, fish, corn, beans, pumpkins and squash.
On Thanksgiving, we eat turkey, corn and pumpkins too. And we also say “Thank you, God, for our families, our food and our homes”.

While in Germany, for example, gingerbread is made in the shape of a heart, Lebkuchen, or a house. One of these houses is described in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

On 14 December, our class went on a field trip to the Liberation
War Museum at Agargaon, Dhaka. The trip was planned as
part of our Bangladesh and Global Studies course. Our bus
reached the museum at 10 a.m. A guide was waiting for us.
He welcomed us warmly and took us on a quick tour of the
different galleries and exhibits of the museum. At first we
watched a video clip on our liberation war and our Independence.
There were four permanent galleries that exhibited rare
photographs, documents and newspaper clippings, and objects
used by the freedom fighters and the martyrs of our liberation
war. At "Gallery 2-Our Rights, Our Sacrifices'", our teacher read
out to us the Declaration of Independence by Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Some other visitors also stopped and
listened to it attentively. As we went inside "Gallery 4-Our
Victory, Our Values'", we fell silent. We were sad as we looked at
the personal belongings of some of our martyred intellectuals
and freedom fighters- a pair of glasses,
a pen, a notebook, a money-bag, a shirt,
and other such things.
We left the museum at 12:30. It was
an experience we would never forget.
