Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were famous American criminals during the Great Depression. They were a couple in love and partners in crime. Many people saw them as modern-day “Robin Hood” figures, but in reality, they were dangerous and violent.
Bonnie was born in 1910 in Texas. She was a smart woman who loved poetry and acting. Her father died when she was very young, so her mother raised her. Bonnie married a man named Roy Thornton when she was 16, but the marriage didn’t last long. They never divorced, but Bonnie left him.
Clyde Barrow was born in 1909, also in Texas. His family was very poor. As a teenager, Clyde started stealing cars and committing small crimes. He went to prison for robbery, where he met tough criminals and became even more dangerous.
Bonnie and Clyde met in 1930 and quickly fell in love. Soon after, Clyde returned to prison, but Bonnie helped him escape. After that, they began a life of crime together. They robbed banks, gas stations, and small stores across several states. They often traveled with a small gang, including Clyde’s brother Buck and Buck’s wife Blanche.
Between 1932 and 1934, they killed at least 13 people, including police officers. They became famous in newspapers and magazines. Some people admired their courage and love story, but most were afraid of them.
The police hunted them for months. Finally, in May 1934, officers set a trap in Louisiana. Bonnie and Clyde were driving when the police open-fired. They died instantly. Bonnie was 23 years old, and Clyde was 24.
Their story became legendary. Movies, books, and songs tell the story of their love and their crimes. Today, they are remembered as one of the most famous criminal couples in American history.

Topic: In many cities the use of video cameras in public places is being increased in order to reduce crime, but some people believe that these measures restrict our individual freedom. Do the benefits of increased security outweigh the drawbacks?
Model essay:
It is true that video surveillance has become commonplace in many cities in recent years. While I understand that critics may see this as an invasion of privacy, I believe that the benefits do outweigh the drawbacks.
There are two main reasons why people might disapprove of the use of video cameras in public places. The first objection is that these cameras invade our privacy, in the sense that we are constantly being watched by the authorities or by private security firms. Many people find this intrusive and feel that the recording of their movements is a form of state control that curtails their individual freedom. The second argument against the proliferation of CCTV cameras is that they are being used as an alternative to police officers patrolling the streets. If this is indeed happening, then it is unlikely that members of the public will feel safer.
In spite of the drawbacks mentioned above, I believe that the use of video cameras to monitor public areas is a positive measure. The key objective of video surveillance is to deter criminals and to prevent crime. For example, petty criminals like shoplifters and pickpockets are less likely to operate in parts of cities where they know that they are being watched. At the same time, when crimes are committed, the police can use video evidence to catch and prosecute offenders. Therefore, in my view, video cameras offer valuable support to police officers, and they make cities safer for inhabitants, workers and visitors alike.
In conclusion, it seems to me that we gain more than we lose from the enhanced security that CCTV cameras bring to our cities.
