In the first video, the music seemed monotonous and melancholic to reflect the immigrants' feelings on arrival in New York.
The immigrants are getting ready to proceed through Ellis Island, the immigration centre.
There were many different nationalities including Italians, Hungarians, Poles, Romanians and Greeks.
Actually, there were dozens of ethnic groups coming through.
The immigration wave started in the 1890s and ended in the 1920s.
Even if a small number of immigrants was turned away, between 2 to 5% percent, they couldn't help being stressful.
The feeling that dominated throughout the procedure was anxiety because they had heard of people being sent back.
There were two kinds of inspections, legal and medical.
They had to have a minimum of 25 dollars and be accepted by the authorities.
In Video 2, the music is more cheerful. It reflects the hopes brought by a new life in America.
But for the Greeks who had crossed the Atlantic, New York City appeared limitless since they had not even travelled to the next village back Home.
They were amazed at the activities going on and at the mixture of people living together.
They came along with a variety of Irish, Jews and Italians.
They all hoped for a better life.
