World Cup: Sounds of joy – and mourning – as South Africa kicks off tournament
The first vuvuzela of the day sounded at 6am, blown by a young man in a stained anorak walking to his job through the early morning mist along Rivonia Road. On the other side of Johannesburg, meanwhile, a 91-year-old world hero was mourning the death of his 13-year-old great-granddaughter.

Police said that the driver had lost control and hit a barrier, adding that he would be charged with drunk-driving and possibly culpable homicide.
And so the frail and grieving Madiba, as Nelson Mandela is affectionately known to most of South Africa's 49 million citizens, was unable to make his promised appearance at Soccer City today. In the stadium built on the foundations of the one in which he had made his first speech after his release from prison in 1990, he had planned to give his benediction to Bafana Bafana, the national team. "It would be inappropriate for him to attend the celebrations," a spokesman for his foundation said.
"Africa is the cradle of humanity," the Most Reverend Desmond Tutu, a Nobel peace prize winner – like Mandela – and the former chairman of South Africa's truth and reconciliation committee, had told the crowd at the concert the previous night, "so we welcome you home. Every single one of you. We are all Africans." Those non-Africans in the stadium watching today's pageant could only feel happy to be so adopted.
"The spirit of Madiba is in Soccer City," Sepp Blatter, the president of Fifa, told the crowd, before introducing Jacob Zuma, the current president of South Africa, who read out a message from Mandela: "The game must start and we must enjoy the game."

Once upon a time, there was two orphaned twin brothers.They loved each other dearly.When they reached a marriageable age, The elder brother made a girl his wife.After the marriage, the brotherhood didn't have a deep love like they used to be.It made the young brother very sad.
One day, the two brothers came back from the field.The young brother walked into the house earlier.The wife thought that was her husband so that she had missed and hugged the younger brother.At that moment, the elder brother walked just into, both of the wife and the younger brother suddenly realized and both them felt ashamed.After that, the elder brother thought that his wife and the younger brother were in a relationship so the elder brother began to give the old shoulder to the younger brother.
One afternoon, while the elder brother and the sister in law didn't stay at home, the younger felt sad so he decided to run away.He walked on and on until coming to a stream, he sat down to cry and turned into a rock.The elder brother came back the house and noticed his brother was gone, so he went to go find him.He walked on and on until he came to the above stream, he sat down against the rock to rest.Then he started to feel repentant and cried.Eventually, he turned into a branchless tree, growing upright next to the rock.The wife came back and she didn't her husband so she went to go find.She walked on and on until coming to that stream, she sat against the tree next to the rock, she lamented and turned into a liana around the tree next to the rock.

Once there was a tree and a littie boy. Every day the boy would come and play with the tree. He would climb up her trunk and swing from her branches and eat apples. The boy loved the tree very much . And the tree loved the boy, too.
But time went by. And the boy grew older. And the tree was often alone. Then one day the boy came to the tree and the tree said ''Come,boy,come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples.''
'' I am too big to climb and play,''said the boy ''I want to buy things and have fun. Can you give me some money ?'' ''I don't have any money.Take my apples,Boy ,and sell them. Then you will be happy.''
So the boy sold her apples.
But the boy stayed away for a long time and the tree was sad.Then one day the boy came back and the tree was so happy and said,''Come , Boy, climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and be happy.''
''I am too busy to climb the tree,''said the boy.
''I want a house to keep me warm,''he said.
''Can you give me a house?'' ''I have no house,''said the tree.
''Cut off my branches and make a house.''and so the boy did.
But the boy satyed away for a long time.and when he came back, the tree was so happy she could hardly speak.
''Come,Boy,''she whispered,''Come and pley.''
''I am too old sad to play,''said the boy .''I want a boat.Can you give me a boat?''
''Cut down my trunk and make a boat,''said the tree.And so the boy did.And after a long time the boy came back again.
'' I am sorry,Boy,''said the tree,
''But I have nothing left to give you---,I'm just an old stump.''
''My apples are gone.''
''My branches are gone,''
''My trunk is gone,''and the boy said
''My teeth are too weak for apples,''

''Well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting Come, Boy. Sit down and rest.''
And the boy did. And the tree was happy.

Once upon a time,there was a boy named Jack who lived on a farm with his mother. They were very poor and had little to eat. Finally Jack's mother had to send him to the market to sell the cow.This made Jack very sad.
On his way to the market, Jack met a strange old man who offered him a handful of magic
beans in exchange for the cow.Jack was sure the colourful beans would bring good luck,so he agreed. He was very excited as he hurried home.
When he got home, his mother was very angry.''Magic beans?''she cried.''you have been cheated,Jack! You gave him the cow for nothing!''
Then she threw te beans out of the window and sent Jack to bed without any supper.
When he awoke the next morning, Jack was amazed to find a huge beanstalk had grown from the spot where his mother had thrown the beans.He still believed the beans would bring them luck, so he began climbing the beanstalk up up up.
At the top of the beanstalk, Jack found himself in a strange land.He followed a path that led to a huge castle.Inside,there was a dining room that had large piles of gold coins.Then he saw a huge table with plates of delicious food. He was so hungry,he climbed up and began to eat.
Just when he heard a loud rumbling sound,he looked up and saw a giant who was snoring as he slept.
Jack was so scared that he jumped down from the table and ran for the door,he grabbed some gold coins and quickly climbed back down the beanstalk.
Jack's mother was pleased when she saw the gold coins.And so Jack climbed back up to the castle.
This time,Jack found the giant's goose that laid golden eggs.He grabbed the goose,but it let out a loud squawk. The giant heard the noise and began to chase Jack.
Jack scurried past the giant and scrambled down the beanstalk,then he shouted,''Mother, Quick! Bring the axe!''
He chopped down the beanstalk and the giant fell to his death.With the goose and the golden coins,Jack and his mother lived happily ever after.

“Maybe not,” Cam said to her mother. “Maybe Aunt Molly is still waiting for her luggage.”
Cam, her parents, and Eric looked quickly at the signs nearby. “It’s this way,” Cam said. She pointed to her left.
May I have your attention, please, was announced. The city bus will be leaving in three minutes. Thank you.
As Cam, her parents, and Eric begun to walk to their left, people rushed toward them.
“Hurry, Martha, hurry or we’ll miss the bus,” a man told the woman next to him. She was carrying a large suitcase which she could hardly lift.
“Look, look, a bear,” a small girl said. She pointed to a young man carrying a suitcase and a large toy bear with a pink ribbon wrapped around it.
“We’ll look when we get on the bus,” the girl’s mother said.
Cam, her parents, and Eric moved to the side to let the people rush past. As they moved, a fat older man with a beard bumped into Eric. The man’s hat fell off.
“I’m terribly sorry,” the man said as he picked up his hat. Then he rushed to the door.
“We have to hurry, too,” Mrs. Jansen said, “or we’ll miss Molly.”
Cam and Eric followed Cam’s parents. They turned to the left, walked for a while, and then followed a sign to their right. Mr. Jansen looked around. There were no more signs and no luggage.
“I think we’re lost,” Cam whispered to Eric.
They were near a large newspaper, magazine, and snack stand.
“I’m hungry,” Eric said. He bought a large bag of popcorn. “Do you want some?” he asked Cam as he opened the bag.
“Don’t eat so much,” Mrs. Jansen told Eric. “I made sandwiches, salads, and a big cake for the party.”
Mr. Jansen asked the woman at the newspaper stand, “Do you know where we can find the luggage from Flight 54?”
“It’s that way,” she told him and pointed to the right.

Cam, Cam’s parents, and Eric walked to the right. Eric saw a woman standing in the middle of three suitcases. “Look, there’s Molly,” Mr. Jansen said. He ran to her.
“Oh, Jack,” the woman said as she ran to meet Mr. Jansen.
They hugged. When Mrs. Jansen reached them, she hugged Aunt Molly, too.
“And look at you, Jennifer,” Aunt Molly said when she saw Cam. “You’re so pretty. I love your red hair. And Eric, you look real handsome.”
Cam, her parents, and Eric looked at Aunt Molly. She looked at them and smiled. Then Aunt Molly sighed. She sat on one of the suitcases. She put her hands on her knees and said, “I’ve seen so many interesting places on this trip. I visited Basel and Bristol. No, I think it was Barcelona and Brussels. No it was Bristol, Bern, and Bologna? Oh I don’t know. I get all those ‘B’ places confused. I’ll tell you all about it later. But right now I have to rest. I’m so tired.”
Aunt Molly unbuttoned her sweater. Then she saw Eric’s bag of popcorn. “Can I have some?” She asked.
“Sure,” Eric said.

A man wearing a dark blue uniform and captain’s hat walked quickly toward them. “First they tell me Gate 2. Now it’s Gate 7,” he said as he rushed by.
“It’s hot in here,” Aunt Molly said. She took off her sweater, folded it, and opened the smallest of the three suitcases. She was about to put her sweater into it.
“This isn’t mine,” Aunt Molly said. She took a very long pair of yellow pants from the suitcase and held them up. She gave the pants to Mrs. Jansen. Then Aunt Molly took out a big shirt and said, “Look at the pineapples and racing cars on this shirt. I would never wear it.” She gave the shirt to Mrs. Jansen, too.
Aunt Molly looked through the suitcase. “This is strange,” she said. “Nothing in here is mine. Someone packed his clothing in my suitcase.”

Today, while attending the wedding of a my childhood friend, i remembered some times during our childhood.How happy i was then, there was no sorrow, there was no pain to be felt as in the lyrics of "forever",is a song of the bandStratovarius(http://loidich.com/ld1904-Forever-Stratovarius.html).I still remember a girl next door.She usually came my house to play.I didn't understand then i didn't like her.Once, she came to my house.I has just gotten off of the hammock when she got on but then she didn't allow me seat back when i returned.I told her got out of the hammock but she didn't agree.I was angry so that i threw a chair at her.It made her right eyebrow bled blood profusely.Then i saw my mother carry her in her arms and they walked off somewhere.I sat in the hammock and kept on eating.I was four years old then .Later, she developed a crescent-shaped scar on her right eyebrow.Now, she lives in America.I haven't seen her for ages.I don't know if her scar has been erased yet.That is one memory of my childhood.
