Because my house had bare walls, I began
rushing all about.

Across Europe People woke up on 6 January 1709 to find the temperature had dropped dramatically.

From Scandinavia to Italy, from Czechoslovakia to the west coast of France, everything turned to ice.The sea froze, lakes and rivers froze, and the soil froze to a depth of a metre or more.

In poor homes, people went to bed and woke to find their nightcaps frozen by their beds. Bread froze so hard it took an axe to cut it.

Even the king in Versailles had a hard time to keep warm. The Duchess of Orleans wrote: "I am sitting by a roaring fire, have a screen before the door, which is closed, so that I can sit here with a sable fur piece around my neck and my feet in a bearskin sack and I am still shivering with cold and can barely hold the pen"

Travellers died in the countryside, so did livestock in the stables, and wild animals in the woods.

All over the continent people were found frozen to death. Roads and rivers were blocked by snow and ice, it was impossible to transport food to the cities. The winter wheat crop was destroyed, There were no nuts, no grain, no fruit, no vegetable left.

When spring finally arrived, the cold was replaced by food shortages, many people survived only because the authorities forced the rich to provide soup kitchens.

There was no grain to make bread, some country people made "flour" by grinding ferns, nettles and thistles.

By the summer, there were reports of starving people in the fields "eating grass like sheep".

Before the year was out more than a million had died from cold or starvation.

I choose " I am a legend" . It is a horror fiction novel. It was written in December 2007.

A plague kills most of humanity.
It transforms the rest into monsters.
It takes place in New York where the sole survivor struggles to find a cure.

The main character is Robert Neville. He is a scientist.He was enable to stop the spread of the terrible man-made virus.

He sents out daily radio messages to fond any other survivors.
Mutant victims of the plague are "the infected".
They watch Neville's every move.

Personally, I found this movie to be very good and one of my favaourites.
Neville's past is revealed through flashbacks.
