Many of us do the same when we are speaking to someone and our mind is elsewhere. When this happens, we not only lose much of the enjoyment of what we are doing, but we also become far less focused and effective. To take this to an extreme, imagine yourself driving down the highway while shaving, drinking coffee, or reading the newspaper. You may be inviting an accident. Oil prices hovered above $72 a barrel Monday as investors worried about a weak U.S. economic recovery amid light holiday trading volume.

By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark crude for August delivery was up 10 cents to $72.24 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract lost 81 cents to settle at $72.14 on Friday.

U.S. markets are closed Monday for the Fourth of July holiday.

Oil prices fell the previous six trading sessions and dropped almost 10 percent last quarter amid ongoing fears about Europe's financial crisis and slowing economic growth.

"Obviously, speculative investors are taking their profits because of worries regarding an economic slowdown in the USA and China," said a report from Commerzbank in Frankfurt.

On Friday, the Labor Department said the U.S. private sector added a net 83,000 workers, which was more than May but fewer than March and April, stoking concerns that global economic growth and crude demand could be slowing.

"The balance of crude oil price risks appears skewed towards the downside" because of "negative demand shocks from a sluggish economic recovery," ANZ bank said in a report.

ANZ said it expects crude to trade between $65 a barrel and $75 this month.

In other Nymex trading in August contracts, heating oil rose 1.17 cents to $1.9272 a gallon, gasoline added 0.78 cent to $1.9855 a gallon and natural gas gained 4.2 cents to $4.729 per 1,000 cubic feet.

In London, Brent crude was up 32 cents to $71.97 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

The ants put bits of dead insects inside some of the tunnels, and then the ant plant uses them for food. The ants also look after a caterpillar which lives inside the ant plant and eats its leaves. Because of this, the ants come out of the ground and attack the caterpillar. In return, the caterpillar makes a special honey mixture which the ants eat. NEW ORLEANS – BP's massive oil spill will become the largest ever in the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday based on the highest of the federal government's estimates, an ominous record that underscores the oil giant's dire need to halt the gusher.

The oil that's spewed for two and a half months from a blown-out well a mile under the sea is expected to surpass the 140 million gallon mark, eclipsing the record-setting Ixtoc I spill off Mexico's coast from 1979 to 1980. Even by the lower end of the government's estimates, at least 71.2 million gallons are in the Gulf.

The growing total is crucial to track, in part because London-based BP PLC is likely to be fined per gallon spilled, said Larry McKinney, director of Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi's Gulf of Mexico research institute.

"It's an important number to know because it has an impact on restoration and recovery," McKinney said.

The oil calculation is based on the higher end of the government's range of barrels leaked per day, minus the amount BP says it has collected from the blown-out well using two containment systems. Measuring it helps scientists figure out where the missing oil is, hidden below the water surface with some even stuck to the seafloor. Oil not at the surface damages different parts of the ecosystem.

I took a riverboat from my hometown after 20 years’ absence. I like boat trips. Looking into the water always leads me to some delightful thought. Expecting the graceful curves, woody heights, and reflected images along the river that I remembered from my childhood, I was thrilled as I boarded the boat. I was looking forward to a wonderful day. Yet this time as the boat was going up the river, I felt something was lost. No longer were the shores densely wooded, nor could I see any wildlife anywhere. It gave me a sick feeling. All the grace and beauty had gone out of the majestic river.
