    Biography of my brother

Welcome to "VOY" voice of Yeray! Today, I will speak about the life of Xabier Eskolastiko, brothers in the world.
Xabier, more commonly known as "Esko" was born in "Barakaldo", Basque country, in 1986. He spent his childhood playing Nintendo and developing his skills at video games, which would eventually lead to his success at "Super Mario Brothers 3".

His ability with a joystick was extraordinary. He discovered all of the secret worlds and finished video games thousands of times.
As soon as the video game "AOE" was released into the market, Esko spent day and night mastering it, becoming an unbeatable player during the first decade of 2000. It was just a few years later when his only brother, Yeray, beat him in the international AOE competition of 2011, celebrated in Basauri. It was an epic match.

After this defeat, Esko abandoned "AOE" and started playing other games, like "Baldur's Gate" and "Heroes III". These would become his new favorite games.

Later on, he would injure his neck while playing "Mario Bros", and that would determine the end of his career as a professional video game player.

That's all for today. Join us next week, and discover more interesting things about the life of Xabier in "VOY".

In the United Kingdom, the currency is very unique and famous. Whilst most of the other countries in Europe use the 'Euro', the United Kingdom uses the pound. The full official name for Britain's currency is 'the pound sterling'.

The term 'pound' used as a currency dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, that's over 1000 years ago!

The smallest unit of British currency is the penny, or 'pence' for plural. There are 100 pence in one pound.

Like every other country I can think of, British 'hard cash' comes on both metallic coin and paper forms. All hard cash in produced by the Royal Mint.

In terms of coins: there is the penny coin, the 2 pence coin (tuppence), 5 pence piece, 10 pence piece, the 20 pence piece, the 50 pence piece, the one pound coin and the 2 pound coin.

And for paper notes: there is the 5 pound note, the 10 pound note, the 20 pound note, the 50 pound note and if you're in Scotland, you may even see a £100 note!

Most of us follow the beat of our own drummer, but it turns out that members of our social networks are great predictors of how we’ll respond to future events. In a study in the March 20th issue of the journal Science, researchers at Harvard had undergraduates go on five-minute speed dates. Some women read a brief bio of a guy and his tastes. Others were told how much a woman who had already speed-dated the guy enjoyed herself.

Before each date, the ladies had to predict if they’d have a good time. Most believed the bio would enable them to better gauge if they would like the date. But women who read about someone else’s experience had half as many missed predictions as those trusting their own instincts.

The researchers say such “surrogate” information may be strong because we’re more alike than we think. Even people of different cultures share similar likes and dislikes. Plus, we tend to hang out with people who share our interests. So while we may be marching to our own beat, we’re always part of a bigger band.

    Tuesday, February 17
As expected, the « Marion Dufresne » did not get to leave the harbor this morning because of a hurricane warning. Consequently, the ship will be two or three days behind schedule.
The power station makes one think that there could be some problems very soon. Indeed, the power has been cutting out all day. This is not good news for the electronic devices and equipment. The radio transmissions could also be seriously affected. I hope all the problems will be solved before the winter starts. After that, the spare parts supply will take much longer to get here.

    Friday, February 18
No news about the ship yet. Life on the base continues as if nothing had happened.
Today we tried out a scientific test of the highest interest for the progress of mankind. It was an attempt to make ice cubes with rum instead of water. Knowing that the rum is 40 proof, we made use of the freezers in the scientific laboratory, which are able to cool to minus 80 degrees. After, we added the ice cubes to orange juice, and got a deliciously explosive mixture. I still wonder why people incessantly kept adding these ice cubes into their drinks.

    Saturday, February 19
New experiment this morning! How long does it take for an aspirin to have an effect on a headache?... The expiration date of the orange juice had probably passed.
Another way to recover from a hangover is to go hiking. Actually, it was not a hike just for fun. I noticed that the radio relay had not been working properly for a few days, and decided it was time for a complete servicing. Since the forecast was not too bad, we set off early in the morning.
Unfortunately the weather got worse as we got closer to the relay. The wind was blowing in a gale, and I knew it would probably not abate before the end of the day. Postponing the repair was out of question, and we climbed the last steep slope on our hands and knees.
The work lasted roughly one hour, and then we hurried down the slope to get to a shelter at the far end of the valley, called “Pointe Basse”. We decided to rest for one or two days before going back to the base.
