3D printing technologies have opened up the capabilities for customization in a wide variety of applications in the medical field. Using bio-compatible and drug-contact materials, medical devices can be produced that are perfectly suited for a particular individual.
Another trend enabled by 3D printing is mass customization, in that multiple individualized items can be produced simultaneously, saving time and energy while improving manufacturing efficiency. Early adopters of 3D printing technology for the mass production of customized medical devices include dental laboratories and hearing aid manufacturers. I loved the scene where Janet Leigh was taking a shower in that old Hitchcock movie. When she turned to face the camera, and we could see through the semitransparent curtain that someone was there: it looked like a woman. But we could only see a shadow. The tranquil sound of the water was suddenly contrasted with the violence of the music. From then on, the knife became one more character in the scene. It gave me goose bumps. Do you know this film?

I loved the opening scene of that movie where the killer called a girl at home and asked her, “What’s your favorite scary movie?” Drew Barrymore was fantastic in that role: she went from being annoyed to playful to terrified. When she was told to look outside and found her boyfriend tied up, she went into hysterics and it was only a matter of time before they both got killed! Talk about scary!
