White Star Lines wanted to be the best company so, they decided to build three new ships which would be the biggest ships ever made, called the Titanic, the Olympic and the Britannic. The name Titanic comes from the Titan of Greek mythology. She was to be the biggest, the fastest and the most luxurious passenger boat ever built.
Construction began in 1909 in the city of Belfast. After just 3 years of hard work, she was finished. The Titanic was one of the largest machines on earth and this is why 15,000 people worked on it. The construction ended in 1912 and her first voyage started on April 10th in Southampton England.
A total of 2,453 passengers could fit on the Titanic and they were divided into 3 different classes. 1st class passengers had the nicest rooms and had access to a gymnasium, a salt-water swimming pool and a squash court whereas 3rd class passengers had to share cabins and had only 2 showers for 1,006 people.
At 11.40 pm, The Titanic struck an iceberg. The captain wasn’t paying enough attention and he was aiming to set a record of the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. Furthermore, the first officer decided to reverse the engine. As a consequence, the propeller wasn’t correctly rotating.
At this time, many 1st class passengers were listening to the orchestra or having a drink at the bar. A lot of other people were simply sleeping.
The officers evacuated the passengers onto life boats and they were later rescued by another boat called the Carpathia. More than 1,500 people had perished in freezing water. Less than a third of the 3rd class passengers survived.

Hip-hop dance originated from a cultural movement in 1970s New York. The movement also includes DJing, rapping, and graffiti. Hip-hop dance is very energetic, expressive and improvisational. Breakdancing is a good example of this: it is athletic and acrobatic. It combines spinning on your knees, head, hands, elbows and back. Hip-hop dance is the direct opposite of traditional dance forms such as ballet, jazz and tap.
Street dance evolved from hip-hop dance: the style originated on the streets and in clubs and it incorporates many dance styles. It is more accessible to everyone because it is not acrobatic. You can see it in the music videos of some very famous artists such as Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and others. Some people say street dance is a commercialised and simplified version of hip-hop.
