When I was eighteen years old, I attended an adulthood ceremony with my classmates. What I was wearing that day was a Han suit I bought for the ceremony. The Han suit, also named Hanfu, has been worn for thousands of years before the establishment of the Qing Dynasty. It is said that one ancient king living 5000 thousand years ago invented the Hanfu. The oldest Hanfu found by archeologists was made 3600 years ago. The Hanfu is usually made out of cotton or silk. There are a lot of styles of the Hanfu. What I bought was the formal clothes, Lanlingpao. It consists of a dark blue top garment that runs to the knees with two long sleeves and an white belt with two white streamers hanging from the side. Each sleeve has a white piping. The sleeves are so wide that one can use them to hold a wallet, a folding fan or a book. The whole garment is totally simple but formal, which symbolizes the characteristic of a traditional Chinese gentleman, severe, silent and paying more attention to the inside not the outside. Hanfu is presently worn only as ceremonial clothing, a part of historical inheritances, but there is currently a movement in China and overseas Chinese communities to revive the Hanfu in everyday life and festivals.
Why do employees wear uniforms in some companies?
First of all, uniforms give the employees the first lesson that everyone working in company must have team spirit and keep order in company. Secondly, people wearing the same clothes tend to be friendly as human’s instinct. Finally, people in different sections wear different uniform, so employers can easily know anyone’s role in company even if they don’t know who the person is.
