太陽の一部が月に隠される「部分日食」が９日午前、観測され、日本でみられたのは天候に恵まれた北海道など一部の地域に限られましたが、小笠原の父島では、雲の合間から太陽が４０％近く欠けた様子が観測されました。
「日食」は、太陽と月、地球が一直線上に並んだときに起きる現象で、地球から見ると、太陽の前を月が横切るため太陽が月に隠されます。
