Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is higher than any other mountain in Japan. It is 3,776 meters high, located almost in the middle of Japan. It is a volcano, though it doesn't look like one, and in the past erupted frequently. The last eruption was in November 1707. It's been dormant since February 1708.
Mount Fuji is one of Japan's three sacred mountains and has been an object of worship since ancient times. People now climb it for its grandeur and beauty. Generally, the average temperature at the top is about 10 degrees centigrade cooler than at the 5th station, and about 20 degrees centigrade cooler than at sea level. So you must be well prepared if you are thinking of climbing it. The air gets thinner as the elevation increases. The amount of oxygen up there is only about 2/3 as much per cubic amount as at sea level.
