There are various laws imposed by the govt from time to time.
All these laws are for the benefit of the society in general.
Without these laws we would be living in utter chaos.
The law I am going to talk about here is „Ban on smoking in public places‟.
This law was made effective from 2nd October 2008
It is the birth date of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi
In this law, smoking is strictly prohibited in public places , such as hospitals, courts, bus stops, cinema halls and so on.
If any person is caught smoking in public places, he can be fined Rs. 200
Smoking is very bad for health
It is bad for the smoker and also for the passive smoker.
There are many diseases caused by smoking like
- Lung cancer
- Chest infections like Coughs (bronchitis)
If a pregnant woman does passive smoking then the child can be born with
defects.

Hi! I am going to warn you that this does not sound like it was written by a native speaker to me. It could be because it is from an Indian, and the English in India can sound broken to an American's ears. Here are a few things I found that sounded weird:

All OF these laws are for the benefit of the society in general.

It is the birth date of THE father of the (changing the to our or adding Indian sounds better) nation Mahatma Gandhi.

Smoking is very bad for ONE'S (or your) health.

It is bad for the smoker and also for the passive smoker. -- I have never heard "passive smoker" in my life. I would think it means someone breathing second-hand smoke.

If a pregnant woman does passive smoking -- If a woman breathes second-hand smoke.

Also, when we write dates, we never write the st/nd/rd after the number. 2nd October 2008 is 2 October 2008 or better, October 2, 2008.

I have to agree with Jake about this version of English. It's very tempting to record it in a bad Indian or Pakistani accent (which is what you get when I attempt any accent other than my own).
As it's from a blog , and not from, let's say, an Indian newspaper, the English is less reliable and much of the punctuation is missing.

The date format follows the British tradition , although it's now becoming more common to write 2 October 2008 rather than 2nd October 2008.

Depending on which side of the Atlantic you're on, Christmas will be either 25/12/2011 or 12/25/2011.
