Solomon by Calypso Rose

[spoken] This is Caribbean Vibes.

Solomon, why de hell you harassin’ me?
You can see dat we both of us can’t agree
Every day is a fightin’ inside de place
You beat me bad, you black-and-blue-up me face

Every day you come home you arguin’
You have me like puppet hangin’ on string
I walkin’ out just like a zombie, Solomon
Don’t kill dem children, boy you crazy

Get out me house, Solomon, you’re a stinkin’ louse, Solomon,
You are a blight, Solomon
Get out me life, let me put some light in me life, Solomon. Licks!

When you get der, I cannot see a cent
I have to borrow just to pay de rent
You never home in de time of need
You on de street trying to plant your seed

De children don’t know der own daddy
In de day and night who dey see is me
You walkin’ out der before der break, Solomon [breakfast?]
How much could a woman take?

So get out me house, Solomon, you’re a stinkin’ louse, Solomon,
You are a blight, Solomon
Get out me life, let me put some light in me life, Solomon. Licks!

[spoken] This is Caribbean Vibes.

You’ve had time, get your things and go
Solomon, me ain’t want you no more
You a man who never have a cent
But in your pocket, money maybe an accident

When de weekend come de phone cannot ease
It’s, May I speak to Solomon please? I say, Who are you?
I am de mother of Solomon child, I say What?!
Dis stingy man only runnin’ wild

So get out me house, Solomon, you’re a stinkin’ louse, Solomon,
You are a blight, Solomon
Get out me life, let me put some light in me life, Solomon.

Licks!
[spoken] Only blows an’ de clothes [blows=cigarettes?]

Marriage life was never good for me
For sixteen years all I see is misery
So much pressure, an’ heartache I pass through
I put up with things just because I love you.

You pick up de stray cans from off de street
De children life it was never sweet
You change your action when you at home, Solomon
This life I prefer to be alone

So get out me house, Solomon, you’re a stinkin’ louse, Solomon,
You are a blight, Solomon
Get out me life, let me put some light in me life, Solomon.

Licks!

[spoken] This is Caribbean Vibes.

Solomon, Solomon, Solomon, Solomon, Solomon, Solomon. Solomon, Solomon, Solomon.

Hi again,

I went back and listened again including to another version of the same song and it helped me clarify and fill in some blanks in my original attempt. It's pretty much done, now. I hope it helps your students--thanks for introducing me to this great song and great singer!

The word "licks" I believe may be a reference to whipping as a punishment, but I haven't confirmed this with other sources.
