As an American, I am on my second gap year. Early, in earlier generations, the gap year used to be frowned upon and it's not something that people would do. My mom did not take a gap year, nor did the parents of many of my friends. But a gap year is becoming more...important as you move on in life. It gives you new experiences. It lets you meet new people. And it also helps you figure out what you wanna do. With the rising prices of tuition at universities in the United States, it's important to know what you want to do before you pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it.
So I, my first gap year, played field hockey, which is a sport in the United States and abroad, and I also worked in a research lab to see if that was what I wanted to do. And it was, and I will go back to it eventually. But I also wanted to take a second gap year to experience cultures elsewhere.
Bienvenue Allemagne [I think it's French and I think I transcribed it correctly]
I came to reunion to learn about the culture, the people, a different part of France, and to hopefully see if maybe teaching is what I want to do. And in the end, I still don't know.
Thanks a lot!
It was actually "Bienvenu à la Réunion" (the French Island)
