I think "toast" is just a general concept of "bread that is toasted." Which is why you can have pieces or slices of toast, as well as pieces or slices of bread. You don't have breads, even though they almost always come in slices (if you live in America).

(Oct 16th.2010) Lately /These days / I have not been doing any some exercise. I have been swimming since a long time ago, even though it`s not a strength exercise. My swimming looked like playing in the water and it`s a kind of taking a rest rather than exercise me..And I can tell that it has been very good for my health. it completely refreshes my mind and body.But after I moved out here, I neglected to swim for almost about I year.So lately I found that my body and mind are not in good condition. and I felt like I needed to do some exercise again. (If you knew it now, then do it! Make it happen" )

Yeah , maybe you will lose a bet and also maybe you will win a bet.
But who knows?
Just after facing it can we know the result!
But it`s reality that hiding is the same as losing the bet.

Women Police Officers

Increasing numbers of women are choosing to work in the police force nowadays and have showed their mettle in this field. The issue raised is whether women are actually suited for such jobs. I believe that not only are women suited for such jobs, they are in fact better than men in many areas of police jobs.

In many of the areas of police activity, women are especially adaptable and can even perform better than men. For example, policewomen are especially suitable for working for special police prostitution groups, dealing with trafficking in women within the larger cities. They are also better in dealing with domestic violence and juvenile affairs. Policewomen are generally more acceptable to women and children who have been the victims of the misdeeds of men. Girls and young children have more confidence in women.

What is more, the field of crime prevention is becoming more important to police agencies and here policewomen play their greatest role. They are also gifted in gaining the confidence of small children and in determining whether behaviour is normal or antisocial. The employment of policewomen offers the best method of finding out the real problem, and then determining the best course of action to pursue.

Research conducted internationally clearly demonstrates that women officers use less physical force and are therefore better at dealing with violent confrontations with citizens. Additionally, women officers often possess better communication skills than their male counterparts and are better in obtaining the cooperation and trust required in their job. They are considered at least equal to male officers in most areas of police work. They have shown no differences in the quality of their performance in street patrolling. Those skeptical about their role of police officers base their argument on women’s lack of physical strength. However, with proper training even this factor can be overcome.

To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that, female officers are equally capable as their male counterparts. In some situations they have even proved themselves better than men. No wonder, we are seeing more and more women in police force.

Why do fingers wrinkle in the bath?

I am a 27 yr old female and i have noticed that the skin on my fingertips is wrinkled all the time (like i just got out of the bath). 

Wrinkles on the face and hands are a normal sign of aging.

Wrinkle and crease are two different things. Example: If you wash a pair of pants they come out of the machine wrinkled and without a crease. You iron out the wrinkles and use the iron to put a crease in the pants.

Today, I was thinking about whether it is possible to really become bilingual in Japan.

I have met and talked with some native English speakers who are married to Japanese people.

They live in Japan, and have children, and I have noticed that one thing that they are trying to do is to raise their children to be bilingual.

While their children are infants and staying at home with their parents, they seem to have promise as bilingual children. However, once they start to go to a kindergarten and have lots of opportunities to play with other children, things do not go their parents' way.

No matter how hard their parents try to talk to them in English, they prefer to speak Japanese. Those children understand the English their parents use, but they tend to respond to their parents in Japanese. Obvisouly, it is much easier for them to speak Japanese because they are with Japanese people in Japan most of the time!

They also don't like to be different from their friends, and don't like to use a different language.

I wonder if there are bilingual children who are raised in Japan with parents from different countries here?

Poland re-elects PM Donald Tusk
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has become the first Polish leader to be re-elected since the end of
communism.
Officials results, announced after 93% of votes had been counted, gave Mr Tusk's Civic Platform party enough
seats to continue in coalition.
The centre-right Civic Platform took 39% of the vote, against 30% for its conservative challenger, the Law and
Justice Party.
The leader of Law and Justice, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, has admitted defeat.
Civic Platform becomes the first Polish party to win two consecutive terms since communism's fall in 1989.
Mr Tusk, 54, appears to have been rewarded for presiding over four years of strong economic growth, since
winning a snap election in 2007.
Poland has been the only EU member state to avoid recession, and this year its economy is forecast to grow by
about 4%, the highest rate among the EU's seven largest economies.
'Poland first'
The electoral commission said Civic Platform's 39% would translate into 206 seats in the 460-member lower
chamber.
Mr Tusk's coalition ally, the People's Party, won 8.6% of
the vote, or 30 seats.
Law and Justice won 157 seats; a new liberal prosecular
party, Palikot's Movement, came third with 10%,
giving it 40 seats; the Democratic Left Alliance was the
fifth party to make it into parliament, taking 8.2% and 26
seats.
Mr Tusk said he would work on forming a governing
coalition on Monday.
He is expected to renew his alliance with his current
partner, the agrarian-rooted People's Party, which has
said it is willing to team up with the Civic Platform again
if an offer is made.
He campaigned on his economic success and also
vowed to pursue a steady rapprochement with Russia,
despite rows over missile defence and gas pipelines as
well as the conduct of an inquiry into a plane crash that
killed Poland's president last year.
"It is the highest honour for me and for Civic Platform
that we will be working for the next four years for all of
you, regardless of who you voted for today," Mr Tusk told supporters on Sunday.

"In the next four years we will work twice as hard," he said, according to AP news agency.
The Law and Justice Party's Jaroslaw Kaczynski is known for his mistrust of the two countries which invaded
Poland during World War II, Germany and the USSR. He also attracts support from Polish Eurosceptics.
"I am deeply convinced that the day will come when we will succeed," Mr Kaczynski said. "Sooner or later we'll
win because we are simply in the right."
The 62-year-old served as prime minister from 2005 to 2007, with his twin brother, Lech, as president. Lech
Kaczynski died in a plane crash with 95 others in April 2010.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski competed in the snap presidential polls which followed, but lost to Mr Tusk's ally Bronislaw
Komorowski.

Poland's elections produced two significant firsts - a
governing party was re-elected for the first time
since the collapse of communism in 1989 and a new
anti-clerical party, Palikot's Movement, won third
place.
Donald Tusk's Civic Platform was probably rewarded
for its predictability. It did not run an especially
impressive campaign, but more voters seem to
place their trust in its ability to handle the second
wave of the global crisis than any of its rivals. Its
focus on Europe is also appreciated by many.
Janusz Palikot is an extrovert businessman who
wants a clear separation of Church and state. He
created a party based around himself and
campaigned on legalising abortion, gay marriage
and marijuana.
Those are still extremely controversial issues in
Poland, where the Roman Catholic Church remains
influential. Mr Palikot's support among younger
voters is perhaps a sign that Polish society is
heading in a more liberal and secular direction.

The year was 1661. It was a warm summer night. Aramis, the Bishop of Vannes, arrived at the terrible bastille prison, in Paris. A guard met him at the gate.
"Take me to Monsieur Baisemeaux," said Aramis.
A few minutes later, the Bishop was talking to the governor of the prison. He gave Monsieur Baisemeaux a paper and pointed to a name on it.
"I want to see this prisoner," said Aramis.
The governor read the name on the paper.
"Please, follow me, Bishop," he said.
After a few minutes, the two men arrived at the door of a cell. The governor opened the door with a key.
"I must talk to the prisoner alone," the Bishop said.
Aramis went into the cell. The governor shut the cell door, the he went away.
Aramis looked round the small room. He saw a young man on a bed. He saw a small window, high in the wall. He saw a chair, and a plate of food on a small table. The prisoner had not eaten any of the food. Aramis looked again at the young man.
"What do you want?" asked the prisoner. Then he looked closely at his visitor. The tall old man was a bishop of the Catholic Church. He was wearing a long purple cloak.
"I've seen you before, Bishop," the young man said.
Aramis smiled. "I will tell you a secret," he said.
"Sit down," the young man said. "I'm listening."
Aramis sat on the chair. After a moment, he began to speak. "Do you like the Bastille?" he asked. "Or do you want to be free?"
"What is free, Bishop?" replied the prisoner.
"A free man sees the flowers growing," said Aramis. "He sees the sun shining. He sees the light of the stars. That is freedom!"
The young man thought for a moment. He pointed to some flowers in a vase near his window.
"Here are two roses from the governor's garden," he said. "Aren't they beautiful?"
"I have light too," the prisoner said. "The sun visits me every day. It comes through my small window. At night, I look at the stars. Am I free, Bishop?"
"Why are you here?" asked Aramis. What was your crime?"
"There was no crime," said the young man. "But you are going to tell me a secret. What is it?"
Aramis didn't answer the young man question.
"You said, "I've seen you before." And you were right," the Bishop said. "You saw me once before. It was in 1646-about fifteen years ago. You were in your home in the country. I was with a lady in a black dress."
"I remember her!" said the prisoner. "After that, she came again with another woman."
"I remember her visits well," the young man said. "After my eighth year, I didn't have any other visitors. I lived in a house with a garden. There were high walls round the garden. I never went outside those walls. Two people took care of me- a nurse and my teacher. My teacher was a very kind man. He told me about my parents. "Your mother and father are dead," he said. Was that true, Bishop? Is my father dead?"
"Yes," Aramis said.
"And my mother?" the young man asked.
"She is dead for you," Aramis replied.
"But she is alive for others?" asked the young man.
Aramis waited for a moment. "Yes," he said.
"Young man, you have a powerfull enemy," said Aramis.
"Yes. My enemy must be a very important person," said the prisoner. "I was only a boy, but somebody sent me here. I was fifteen."
"Did this happen eight years ago?" asked Aramis.
"Yes, it was nearly eight years ago," the young man replied."One day, I was in my room at home. My teacher was in his room, above mine. Suddenly I heard him running down the stairs. He ran into the garden and he called to my nurse. She went into the garden too. The two of them went to the water well. The well was under the window of my teacher's room."
"My teacher pointed to the well," the young man said. "He was worried. "I've lost the letter from the Queen!" he told the nurse. "The wind blew it into the well!" My nurse tried to calm him. She told him, "It doesn't matter. The Queen comes here every month. She always burns her letters then- she doesn't keep them. You must write to her. You must tell her about the accident." The nurse wasn't worried."
"I tried to understand the nurse's words," the young man said. "And suddenly, I did understand them. A lady came to the house every month. I didn't know her. But I thought, "That lady is the Queen!" I was very surprised!"
