대한민국은 한국 전쟁 이후 한강의 기적이라 불리는 발전을 하여, 현재 G20의 회원국이며, 2010년 명목 국내 총생산 세계 15위로 성장하였다. 1996년에는 경제 협력 개발 기구, 2010년에는 개발 원조 위원회에 가입하였고, 삶의질 상위 30위 이내에 오른 선진국이다.
