1. In your country, where do people buy the furniture for their homes?
I would say the vast majority of people tend to go to big furniture superstores for their furniture, the main reason being that these places have, by far, the best variety of choices.
2. For a married couple, who usually makes the decisions about what furniture to buy, the husband or the wife?
Well, I guess in most cases, it would be a joint decision between both the husband and wife, and if it happens to be that they can’t agree on something, then the wife probably has the final say, because women usually tend to be the boss when it comes to household matters!
3. What factors do people need to consider when buying furniture for the home?
Well, obviously things like style, quality and price should to be taken into consideration. And as well as this, I’d say another important factor to consider is size, because if you have a big living room, for example, then a small sofa would kind of look a little out of place, and vice versa.
4. Do you think the style of furniture is important?
Yeah, I guess it is, because I mean, we’ve all been to houses where the furniture is hideous, and it kind of ruins the whole home, whereas if you get the style right, then you can make your home look really nice and cosy. So I guess the point I’m basically trying to make is that the style of furniture, to a large extent, determines the whole feel of the home, and that’s what makes it so important.
5. Is there much difference between home furniture and office furniture?
Yeah, for sure there is. For example, home furniture tends to come in a much greater variety of styles than office furniture, simply because, I guess, most people want their homes to look unique, whereas for offices, the most important thing is functionality, so in other words, the practicality and comfort of the furniture is far more important than the style, and I guess that’s the reason why most offices tend to have pretty much the same kinds of desks and chairs in them.
6. Is the material that furniture is made from today different to the material that was used in the past for furniture?
Yeah, I would say it is, because in the past, furniture mostly used to be made of wood, whereas nowadays, there’s a huge variety of different materials that are used for making furniture, of which a few that come to mind are plastic, leather and suede. And I think this reflects the fact that people’s tastes are diversifying as their standard of living improves.
