Please read this with feeling, as if you were telling this story to a child.
とんとむかし、じいさんは、山へ草かりに、ばあさんは、川へせんたくにいった。ばあさんが、こたこたあらっていると、川上から、こばこが一つ、つんぶくかんぶく、ながれてきた。
みれば、赤い花の色絵がしてあるから、ばあさんは、みのあるこばこは こっちへこい みのないこばこは あっちへいけ と、となえたところが、そのこばこが、ぺこんぺこんと、手もとへながれついた。そこでばあさんが、こばこをひろってきて、ろばたでかわかしておくうちに、ヒチンと音がして、中から、小さい犬ころが、生まれてきた。手のひらにのるほどの、まことにかわいい、白い犬ころであったから、じいさんもばあさんも、だいじがってそだてた。
