The Pilgrims, who had left England because of religious problems, reached America in December 1620.
They finally settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts whereas they had planned to arrive in New York.
The first winter was difficult because they hadn't built houses and they didn't have much food.
Out of the 102 people who had arrived in America, half died.
Fortunately, they met the Wampanoag, a Native American tribe, who helped them.
To celebrate their first harvest, they invited the Wampanoag and held a feast which became known as the first Thanksgiving.
