I am back in Sendai from one week of travel in Penang.
I heard about “fighting fish” from the guide in Penang.
The guide lived all the way out in the sticks and grew up there.
When he was young, he and his friends caught fighting fish in a river near where he lived.
This fish is called rumble fish or betta fish.
He described how beautiful the fish are when they fight each other.
I watched the video “Ice Kacang Puppy Love” before I went to Penang.
The heroine of this movie is a girl who likes fish fighting.
I didn’t understand at that time why she was symbolized by the fighting fish.
I found the reason after the guide’s talk.
Fighting fish looks beautiful when it is fighting but it looks pitiful at the end of the fight because it’s tails will be bitten by its enemy’s fish.
