Akeelah and the Bee is a 2006 American film.
It is the story of Akeelah Anderson. She is 11 years old and she lives in Los Angeles. She goes to “Crenshaw Middle School”. Akeelah is intelligent and never makes errors on spelling tests but she doesn’t really like school. She lives with her mother, Tanya, and her sister Kiana and her 2 brothers Devon and Terrence. The principal of her school, Mr. Welch and her teacher, Mrs. Cross, recommend her to participate in the “Crenshaw Spelling Bee Contest” and she wins easily by spelling "fanciful". Dr. Joshua Larabee, an English professor, decides to test Akeelah with some difficult words and finds that she has the potential for the National Spelling Bee in Washington DC.
