I need two men to record this at natural speed please. thanks!
REPORTER: More and more Americans are making their private information public on sites like Youtube, Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Steven Metcalf, an online privacy expert is with me in the studio. Steven, you have used available information on the Internet, and you’ve come up with fifteen pages of private information about me, including my home address and phone number, my credit card number, my social
security number, my former jobs, even the movies and foods I like. How did you do that?
STEVEN METCALF: Well, that was easy, but if I’d been able to spend a hundred dollars on this research, I would have got far more information about you.
REPORTER: Is it true that any time we hit the Send button, personal information becomes public?
STEVEN METCALF: That’s right! The DVDs you buy or rent, the products you buy on the Internet can be tracked. Even the searches you do or your Facebook profile can be viewed, stored and sometimes sold. The Internet is a window into your soul. There are people out there who know what you think, who know who your family is, who know who your friends are…
REPORTER: That’s pretty scary, don’t you think?
STEVEN METCALF: It is, but unfortunately there’s nothing you can do once your personal information has been posted on the net. What’s stored on the net will stay forever… You have no second chance. Your whole life is exposed. Privacy is dead, you’d better get used to it.
REPORTER: Just to reassure our listeners, Google recently said that it gives its web users the tools they need to protect their personal information. But they also say that people should be more careful about what they post on the web.
STEVEN METCALF: Yes, nothing will be safer than their own judgment and common sense.
REPORTER: Well, Steven, thank you so much for sharing this with us. Good-bye.
FYI, I'm more than happy to record all of this, but, for various reasons, I'm not going to get someone else to record it with me. However, it's possible that someone else won't have a problem getting another person to record it with them.
Let me know if you haven't received a recording and you change your mind about wanting two people to record this.
