Amanda: From NPR News I’m Amanda Spencer. Elena Smith is with us today on National Public Radio. Elena is an American young girl from Montana. She is only 22 but she has traveled the world thanks to her job as a journalist.
Amanda: So, Elena, thank you for being here.
Elena: Well, thank you for having me Amanda. It’s my pleasure to be here!
Amanda: Elena, you have traveled the world, you have seen many people and lived many adventures. Can you tell us about your experiences? What is it like to be a journalist these days?
Elena: Hum, well you know I’m from Conrad, Montana and nothing much happens there. My parents wanted me to be a doctor or a vet but I had a thirst for adventure. That’s why I decided to be a journalist. Being on TV wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted to discover things, be surprised and also take risks. I have been a world explorer for only two years now but those two years were the best years of my life.
Amanda: Tell us, what have you seen during your travels? What have you done?
Elena: My first mission was to write an article on Sydney as it is Australia’s oldest and largest city. Nothing really interesting... Since then, I have been to Canada where I tasted the most delicious maple syrup! I have been to France where I discovered the most amazing cheese. I have also been to Italy where I ate the yummiest pizza! Since 2013, my job has been to find the most extraordinary things. So, I started to write articles on records. I have met the tallest man on earth; I have talked with the oldest lady and the strongest man in the world. I have eaten a slice of the largest pizza ever made, I have tried to run next to the fattest runner (but lost) and I have seen the biggest dog in England! I have seen the smallest car, I have met the smallest man. I have seen the longest cat as well.
Amanda: Wow, so many adventures! What else can you tell us?
Elena: Well, let me see… The list is not complete! I have worked with the most impressive businessmen and women and I have met many famous people. For example, Ian Somerhalder is the most involved in the animal cause. Beyonce is the kindest person I have ever met. Barack Obama is certainly the most intimidating…
Amanda: Well, thank you for sharing your experiences!
Elena: You’re welcome. See you soon, bye!
