Building Capabilities
From March to May, WFP South Sudan will be
conducting a series of Gender training workshops for
staff in partnership with UN Women and UNICEF. The
CO will also undertake a Gender Audit with support from
HQ Gender Office. The objective is to assess relative
progress made on GEWE, examine internal practices and
related support systems for gender mainstreaming,
examine effectiveness and highlight shortcomings and
gaps with goals to achieving GEWE at WFP South Sudan.
Women for Women Initiative

practices have affected girls and women, boys and men

- including at WFP- is predominantly male. Under the
impetus of HR and the GEWE section, the CO is working
towards achieving parity in recruitment.
Meanwhile, strategic activities such as the Women for
Women initiative are held on monthly basis to take
women’s empowerment to new dimensions among
female staff under the guidance of the Country Director.
Empowerment with fun!
The Women for Women initiative evolved from a
meeting called by South Sudan’s Country Director in
2014, referred to as a Ladies Only meeting. Both
national and international staff as well as the Regional
Director, Deputy Country Director in Ethiopia, the
Country director of Uganda and Sudan’s Deputy Country
Director attended. A needs assessment was undertaken
prior to the Ladies Only meeting where various issues
