絕種，喺生物學同生態學上，即係呢個品種淨返最後嗰隻都死埋。簡單啲嚟講，即係呢個品種全部死晒。連人養嘅都冇剩，唔再存在。
但係因為一個物種 / 品種嘅生活範圍好大，幾時話呢隻物種絕種係好難，好似泰卡雞呢隻嘢，唔見咗一輪又出現返。物種響一種特別環境裏面演化、適應，環境變咗，絕種喇。一般一個物種大約一千萬就絕種架喇，啲所謂「活化石」係就由佢出現到，到今時今日都無絕種、死唔去嘅物種；好似鱷魚、龜咁，每一千種只得一種係咁好彩。
