JK Rowling was born in 1965. She learnt French at university and she worked as a secretary in London. Then she was an English teacher in Portugal but she came back to England after her divorce.
One day she was on a train between Manchester and London, the train was late, and she started to write the first Harry Potter book. She wrote the second book in 1998 and she finished the series in 2007.
