Note to recorder:

Hello, I would need an audio version of this text to help my French 9th grade students listen and understand a little bit more about Hollywood. It is one part of a five-part lesson, so if you feel courageous... Please speak naturally and do enunciate as my students are lower-intermediate English learners... Thank you so much.

PART 4 : The Dream Factory

The media business, with filmmaking as its heart, generates tens of billions of dollars into the Los Angeles economy per year and directly employs several hundred thousand people. Hollywood produces about half of all the films shot in the United States.

Hollywood is not only a town and an industry but also a creator of dreams and fantasies that have tremendous cultural impact. The “dream factory”, the other name for Hollywood, is among the most global of industries, with huge overseas markets and an impact on people in practically every corner of the globe. For decades movies made in Hollywood dominated the world's screens.

As we sit in the darkened theater, watching movies, we may easily enter into a dreamlike state. We feel a sense of power and identification with the heroes and heroines , who are beautiful people showing the extremes of wealth and glamour, of violence and action. The movies’ fictional plots allow emotionally satisfying resolutions and make us happy.

The Academy Award ceremony of the Oscars broadcast from Los Angeles is said to have a TV audience exceeding one billion people each year. The industry also attracts many tourists into southern California for a visit of one of the famous studios like Universal Studios or Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour.

You're welcome. Any feedback regarding pace (slow enough?), or volume is welcome as well. Let me know if you'd like me to record Parts 1 - 3, and I'd be happy to. I actually am from Hollywood, so it's a topic I'm pleased to talk about!

Oh ! I hope I didn't make too many mistakes because I have simplified teh text a lot for my students. They are so thrilled to study Hollywood's universe and me too actually.

The pace is perfect, not too quick, for my intermediate ESL students. Your enunciation is excellent, it will definitely ease their comprehension work !! The volume is loud enough but not too much so honestly, your work is very valuable for a teacher who needs native speakers recordings. And YES PLEEEEAAAASE could you record part 2 and 3 ( part 1 was already done). It would be really nice because I need this for my class very soon. Thank you in advance.

Actually , I 've posted the Whole document (5 parts in all), it is a little further down in the queue under the profile of Arioushka. So if you feel like recording parts 2, 3 and 5, that would be awesome and providing me with a beautiful comprehenion tool for my class in France.

To answer your question, The five audio parts will be studied in class by five different groups (so it is better to have five separate files). Each group must collaborate to pick up a maximum of information and they will then present it orally to the other groups. In the end, every student should have elements on the five different aspects of Hollywood. I don't know if I'm clear.
