I've made some fairly dramatic changes to the end of it. I don't know if that's what you meant or not, but I tried to make it sense with the rest of it. (I should point out, maybe, that metals that are liquid at room temperature have been known since before the Middle Age. The most famous of these, of course, is mercury.)
