BANGUI, Central African Republic (AFP) – Troops in the Central African Republic killed three rebels in a clash on Friday in the northeastern region of Ndele, an officer said.
"We've counted three dead among the rebels," the officer in the capital told AFP.
"The rebels ... used a teachers' protest march to launch an attack which was just as soon put down by the armed forces."
The teachers were protesting the murder of a pregnant teacher killed on Tuesday by members of the Convention of Patriots for Justice and Peace (CPJP), which was also behind the attack on the march, said the officer.
Unlike other rebel movements in the country, it has not signed up to a peace process in the country or entered talks.
The family of Charles Massi, a former minister who headed the movement, say he was arrested last December in Chad being handed over to the Bangui authorities, who tortured him to death.
The government in the Central African Republic have denied the allegation.
