I did my best. In some places there were words in [brackets], I took these to be alternate readings. In these cases, I read the given sentence twice, once with each option.

An exception toward the end is "It is surely no accident that he succeeded (in life)." In this case, the (in life) made sense in the context of the sentence, and I simply read it as it was written.

I wasn't sure what to do for "put ... on one side", so I just read it as a long pause. In practice you would replace the ... with some subject.
