Many different studies have shown that when drivers use a phone while driving, it can be very dangerous. At some point during the use of a cell phone, a driver's eyes and bound to be distracted from the road, Statistic shows that texting while driving makes a driver 23 times more likely to crash and drivers taking a cell phone are 4 times more likely to have a car accident. Answering a text takes away your attention for about five seconds. That's enough time to travel the length of a football field. Studies have found that texting while driving causes a 400% increase in time spent with eyes off the road. Using a phone has a detrimental effect on a number of critical driving tasks. Specifically, negatives effects were seen in detecting and responding correctly to road signs, detecting hazards and time spent with eyes off. Also, our brain is not capable of fully concentraing on two things at the same time. If you're texting or engaged in a cell phone conversation while driving that leaves your brain with less cognitive load to focus on driving. That's why your driving is not as good as it could be. Moreover, using a phone while driving slows reaction time more than being drunk. Distracted driving has become a large problem in the last few years as cell phone have become more common in your day-to-day lives. 23 percent of all crashes each year involve cell phone use. Distractions, along with alcohol and speeding, are now leading factores in fatal and serious injury crashes.
