Have you heard the news that a lot of school teachers and police officers throughout Japan said that they may quit their jobs before the end of the fiscal year?

Here is the reason: The government's retirement allowance cut will take effect in February. If they keep working and wait for the normal retirement day, which is March 31, their retirement allowance(/pension) will be 1.5 million yen less.

TV Asahi reported that 473 teachers and police officers are planning to retire early: The prefecture with the highest number of retirees was Aichi with 142, followed by Saitama with 137, Hyogo with over 90 and Saga with 52.

Now students and parents are worried by the thought that they might lose their home-room teachers just before the end of the school year. And, what if there is a sudden decrease in the number of police officers?

If I put myself into their shoes, as 1.5 million yen is big money to lose, I might seriously consider what I should do. However, if I were a school teacher, it would be too important to leave my students alone in the middle of the school year. It must be a difficult decision for them to choose.

I just wonder if those teachers who have already decided to quit think that they are not that important for their students? Or, is money important to them? Or, are they retiring early because they believe the government shoud pay them what is originally promised?
