During the games, different persons chosen specifically for this worldwide event carry the torch, as a symbol of respect, friendship, peace and unity.
For the Olympic Games 2024, water will be at the heart of this magnificent event and will occupy a special place in Paris 2024 Games.
Indeed, this natural element inspired the 3D and vibration effects designed on the Torch.
Its journey will start from France after crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
Paris 2024 games Torch
Matthieu Lehaneur is an artist and was born in 1974. He is the man who designed the Olympic Torch. He opened a factory named “pied-à-terre” in New York where he gives voice to his latest creations.
The torch is an iconic object as it reflects three main themes: equality, water and peacefulness. It is a symbol of cohesion and conveys a sense of sharing.
It was made from recycled and renewable produced steel and is 70 cm long.
Throughout the relay, the torch will be handed from one participant to another, journeying across both land and sea.
Three symbols
The Olympic Games put forward three main symbols revolving around the themes of sport and highlighting the city – Paris - chosen for this special event.
The gold medal, the flame and Marianne represent perfectly the Olympic and Paralympic movement, along with France, praising its values throughout history.
The gold medal which embraces a core value, is often regarded a symbol of excellence, achievement, and victory. Furthermore, it represents the highest level of accomplishment, and is awarded the very first-place winner.
The second symbol – the flame – has a special place in the heart of the Seine Saint-Denis area, which helps changing the image of the district.
