She was born in 1819 at Kensington Palace. She died in 1901. Her reign is the second longest of an English monarch. In 1840 she married the German Prince Albert and they had 9 children. Her reign was a period of prosperity for Great-Britain. She is often called the Grandmother of Europe because so many of Europe's monarchs are her relatives. Her reign saw great cultural expansion; advances in industry, science, and communications; and the building of railways and the London Underground.

He was born in April 1889 and he died in December 1977. He was from a very poor family. He began his career performing as a child (music hall, comedian). In 1908 he moved to America. There, he developed the Tramp persona and became very popular. During the 1940s: he was forced to leave the USA, because of suspicions of
Communist sympathies. He finally settled in Switzerland. He is one of the most important figures of the film industry, especially in the silent era. He wrote, directed, produced, starred in and composed the music for most of his films. His major works are The Kid and Modern Times.

He was born on 6th January 1854.

She was born in London in August 1797 and she died in February 1851.
She got married in 1816 but her husband died only 6 years later. This lady had 4 children with her husband, however, only one grew into an adult.
She is mostly known for her fictional writings and the dreadful themes in her novels. She published her 1st horror novel, Frankenstein, in 1818. Her other novels, Mathilda and The Last Man are also regarded as great literary pieces.

The space race
The USA and the Soviet Union competed in exploring space from 1957 to 1969, a period called the Cold War. They aimed at sending humans into space and landing on the Moon. Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut, was the first human to see the Earth from space in April 1961. But the Moon landing race was won by the Americans on July 20th, 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the Moon while Michael Collins stayed in the Apollo 11 spacecraft. Space exploration led to technological progress resulting in many practical inventions.
