MARTYN: Mr Dagar, you have a good track record of producing unexpected and remarkable hits at the box office. What for you is the most important element in a successful film?
DAGAR: A lot of things are very important, but I'm basically just a writer of action movies and so it's got to be story-line for me, even though most directors wouldn't agree with that input, they usually prefer the visual angle.
MARTYN: You are well known for disagreeing with directors, sometimes very publicly: does that worry you?
DAGAR: No, not at all. You see, I've often felt the director's role is overstated. Not that he's unimportant, but we must never forget that generally it's usually the actors that pull the crowds in initially, and they keep coming if the story is good. When it comes down to it, the director is just a technician.
MARTYN: Just a technician? That's a bit extreme, isn't it?
DAGAR: Not really. You see, you need story- but actors are also vital to a film's success. Nine times out of ten, no famous actors means box office failure. It's not that the director isn't important- but the contribution that an actor makes is just so much more visible. That's why we look for names to top the bill on any new production.
MARTYN: So for you it's just actors, is it? Isn't that rather reductive?
DAGAR: No, there are actresses too! But seriously, characterization is also significant. Characterization is where the actor meets the story, and a good script has a very strong sense of characterization and that will allow the actors to get off, to pull it off.
Soap opera is a good case in point. Soap opera is just actors, and story. The director is last on the list, it's situation, story and acting that count. Ham acting if you like- but that's what the punters want. In fact, thinking about it, soap is true art: just like sonnets, it operates under strict constraints and conventions to get its message across.
MARTYN: Soap opera as art? That's a bit strong, isn't it?
DAGAR: Not at all. Art is about constraints, limits: artifice and artifact are closely related concepts, if you think about it. And film is a strongly constrained medium: much more so than a book, let's say. You can always add a few chapters in a book. It's easier to write a book than to make a film.
MARTYN: And the film of the book? What about that?
DAGAR: The book always succeeds better. Maybe not always but certainly usually, at any rate: because film-making is tough, it's difficult to get it right
MARTYN: So what is your favorite film viewing then?
DAGAR: Like I said, I'm a story buff. I like car chases and steamy love scenes. Martial arts and special effects turn me on. Give me a good solid well-constructed blockbuster any time!

Queen Elizabeth
Elizabeth II was the Queen of the UK and other Commonwealth countries.
She was born on April 21st, 1926. She died on September 8th, 2022.
She married Philip in 1947 and they had 4 children together.
She became queen in 1952 when her father, King George, died.
She was queen for 70 years. It was the longest reign in history.
The heir to the throne was Charles, her eldest son. He has now become King Charles III.
As queen, she was not supposed to intervene in government matters. The prime minister is the person who runs the country. The monarch has to be neutral when it comes to politics.
The British monarchy is admired all around the world. However, the British monarchy also remains controversial. Some people say it’s a very costly institution.
It is generally accepted that the greatest two monarchs of all time were women: Elizabeth the first 1559 to 1603 who encouraged the arts and exploration, and Queen Victoria 1837 to 1901 who ruled over the British Empire when it covered the whole world.

Dracula is a novel by Bram Stoker, published in 1897.
Jonathan Harker, a young English lawyer, travels to Castle Dracula in the Eastern European country of Transylvania to conclude a real estate transaction with a nobleman named Count Dracula.
As Harker travels through the countryside, the local peasants warn him about his destination, giving him crucifixes and other charms against evil and saying strange words that Harker later translates into “vampire.”
Frightened but determined, Harker meets the count’s carriage as planned. The journey to the castle is distressing, and the carriage is nearly attacked by angry wolves along the way.
Upon arriving at the crumbling old castle, Harker finds that Dracula is a well-educated and hospitable gentleman. After only a few days, however, Harker realizes that he is effectively a prisoner in the castle.
The more Harker investigates the nature of his confinement, the more uneasy he becomes. He realizes that the count possesses supernatural powers and diabolical ambitions.
One evening, Harker is nearly attacked by three beautiful and seductive female vampires, but the count pushes them away, telling the vampires that Harker belongs to him.
Fearing for his life, Harker escapes from the castle by climbing down the walls. Will Count Dracula find him again?

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a novel written by Irish writer Oscar Wilde. It was published in an early form in a magazine in 1890. It was then released as a book in 1891.
The work is an archetypal story of a young man who purchases eternal youth at the expense of his soul.
The story begins in the art studio of Basil Hallward, who is discussing a painting of Dorian Gray with his clever, funny but still amoral friend Lord Henry Wotton.
Dorian Gray, the subject of the painting, arrives, and he is fascinated as Henry explains that beauty and youth are temporary and that he believes one should live life to the fullest by indulging one’s impulses.
Dorian declares that he would give his soul if the portrait were to grow old and wrinkled while he remained young and handsome.
Basil gives the painting to Dorian, who spends the next 18 years in pursuit of capricious excess and is increasingly drawn to evil. He frequently visits the portrait, noting the signs of aging and of corruption that appear, whereas he himself remains young and perfect. However, this very eerie situation doesn’t frighten him at all.
Basil has realised the gravity of the situation and he tells Dorian that if this reflects him, he must repent and pray for forgiveness. It enrages Dorian who murders Basil.

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is an 1818 novel written by English author Mary Shelley.
Captain Robert Walton, on an Arctic expedition, writes to his sister about a mysterious stranger he has rescued from the ice.
Victor Frankenstein tells Walton his story—a happy childhood, an unhealthy obsession with alchemy, and his engagement to his cousin Elizabeth.
Later, Victor enrols at the University in Germany, where he discovers the secret of life and builds a creature from dead bodies in his laboratory. The monster is very scary and macabre as he has many scars.
When the creature comes to life, Victor is horrified. He runs away and falls ill. During a slow recovery under the care of his friend, Henry Clerval, Victor hears from his father: his little brother William has been murdered.
Victor returns to Switzerland where a beloved servant is hanged for William’s murder. Victor suspects the creature but has no proof until they meet on an Alpine glacier… What will Victor learn on that glacier?
