For later Greeks the Trojan War was the best remembered event of the Mycenaean age: it is the central fact of history behind the Iliad and Odyssey; and it was constantly present to the Greek mind as a turning-point of the heroic age.
The two greatest Greek historians both refer to it in the opening chapters of their work: Herodotus recalls it as an earlier conflict of east and west, analogous to a that of the Persian Wars; Thucydides speaks of it as the first united foreign enterprise of the Greeks. That it was a united Greek enterprise is a point of some importance. The fame and glory of it were a joint inheritance of all the Greeks, just as the Homeric epics were. But we should be wrong to suggest that it was the Homeric epic that made it so, or that the epic was the sole source of the knowledge of the war.
It is true that are considered reading of Iliad and the Odyssey will give one the outline - that Agamemnon mustard a force of men and ships from all Greece against Troy to avenge the abduction of Helen, wife of his brother Menelaus of Sparta, and that Troy vase eventually sacked after a long-drawn-out siege. Homer's purpose was to tell a tale of human experience of universal application; and his narratives have the Trojan War for their backcloth because the period of that war and its aftermath was the most momentous in the then remembered past of the Greeks, and was universally recognized as such. Indeed the fact that the Trojan War was accepted as historical by the entire ancient Greek world, and that no writer in all that nation of skeptics ever questioned its historicity, is the most compelling evidence that it really did take place.

If a farmer puts ten sheep in a field, they do not distribute themselves evenly or randomly over the area. During the day they crop most parts of the field but they move around it together as a group. A flock of sheep seems to be a social entity of some kind, not merely an ‘aggregation’. Without being a sheep it is difficult to say what the object of this behavior is. The quantity of food available to the sheep is not increased by foraging as a flock rather than individually. The behavior does not help to protect the members against predators. So far as one can tell, the sheep are not achieving anything collectively that they could not achieve individually, except satisfying an apparent predisposition for physical closeness. If a flock of sheep is ‘society’, its organization is minimal and the utility of the organization is not apparent to an outside observer.
Humans are clearly gregarious, but they do not associate with one another in ways that embrace all the members of the species in a particular area. Smaller groups are formed which include some members and exclude others. People like to be close to those who are similar to themselves in certain respects, but the preference to be distant from those who are different; human gregariousness is quite severely limited in its scope. In a world, humans discriminate. They prefer association with others of the same occupation, socioeconomic class or status, religion, language, nationality, race, color, and so on. This is the source of some of the most serious problems facing human societies. Some limited associations are much more important in this respect than others. If the tool-and-die makers of a city form an exclusive recreational association, it creates few, if any, social problems, but if white residents form white-only residential areas or school districts that is a different matter. Man’s limited gregariousness is not, in itself, a social problem, but certain kinds of discrimination are sources of conflict and hostility that are dysfunctional for the collectivity. The study of discrimination, its kinds, its consequences, and its remedies when the consequences are dysfunctional, is a major interest of social scientists.

Thousands of mobile workers could benefit from using a computer if only the computer were lighter, freed their hands, and didn’t tether them to a desk or a power outlet. Now a new generation of wearable pcs promises to extend the trend begun by notebook and handheld computers.
Wearable computers, long a staple of science fiction, are here. In an effort to create truly personal computers that meld a computer and its user, designers have divided the wearable PCs components into cable-connected modules that fit into headsets, drape across shoulders, hang around the neck, and fasten around the waist, forearm, or wrist.
Manufactures of these wearable pcs combine existing or emerging technologies to create customized PCs for specific types of workers. The TLC (Tender Loving Care) PC for paramedics is a good example. At an accident scene, speech recognition software lets the paramedic dictate symptoms and vital signs into a slender microphone hanging from a headset.
The computer, draped across the medic’s shoulders like a shovel, compares this data to a CDRO M medical directory in the shoulder unit. The computer then projects possible diagnosis and suggested treatments onto the headsets miniature display. The TLC unit improves upon the two-way radio medics now use to communicate with emergency-room doctors. Instead of describing symptoms over a two-way radio, medics could use a trackball-operated video camera and body sensor strapped to their palm to show doctors the patient’s condition. The video and additional data would be beamed to the doctors by a satellite link. Headphones would let medics get feedback and additional advice from the waiting doctors.

I was at Elizabeth’s court when someone tried to kill her. Even if I don’t remember exactly where I was, I was probably reading and answering letters I had received from Mary I, Queen of Scots. I think it is unfair she is in jail because she is a great queen.

Instead, she wanted me to marry Mary I, Queen of Scots. Although I refused to marry Mary I, Queen of Scots, I was helping her when she needed.

Even though I wish I have married my beloved Queen of England, I could have never killed her.

I was waiting in jail when someone tried to kill Elizabeth. I was praying and writing letters all day long.

Queen Elizabeth I put me in jail. She thought I was plotting to become Queen of England. I had lost my throne in Scotland. I was asking her help to get back my crown in Scotland when I came to England.

Even if I have a motive, I was not even present so I could not have tried to kill Elizabeth.
