Endangered Animals
Today, there are some endangered animals on Earth. It means that we can find only a few of them around us. Some examples are whales, pandas, tigers and Asian elephants.
Humans destroy the natural homes of the animals in the forests, lakes, and plains. When the number of people on Earth increases, they need more places for living. They cut down trees and destroy lakes.
They make homes and roads instead. Then the animals won’t have a
place to live. They will die out.

These five drawings are from my book Mice in the City: London, published by Thames & Hudson. The Mice in the City series was published in 2018 and consists of three books: London, New York, and Around the World.

Although we are all enduring a difficult moment because of COVID-19, I very much hope that the situation improves in both Japan and the rest of the world.

Currently, I am working on a new project on original architecture, which I hope will inspire people’s imaginations, and I am looking forward to showing this work in Japan in the future if possible.

I used pencil to first create a sketch, which I then covered with black pen. To add colour to the small, detailed lines, I used pastel tones in Photoshop.
I wanted to highlight the humour in the images to make people smile; at the same time, I wanted to accurately portray what happens inside the buildings by including traditions and culture.

The five images I submitted are based on my experience traveling in London. London has beautiful museums and famous spots that children can visit frequently, such as the Tate Modern, the Natural History Museum, the Tower Bridge, and Big Ben, which is the biggest clock in the world! Living in such a big city and observing and drawing its detailed architecture during my course at Cambridge inspired me to create this project.
