Columbus is the capital city and largest city of the U.S. state of Ohio. It is in the middle of the state. In 2019 there were 898,553 people.

Columbus is the 14th largest city in the United States of America. It is named for explorer Christopher Columbus. The city was founded in 1812.

The city has a diverse economy based on education, government, insurance, banking, fashion, defense, aviation, food, clothes, logistics, steel, energy, medical research, health care, hospitality, retail, and technology.

Columbus has a wide variety of museums and galleries. Its primary art museum is the Columbus Museum of Art.

Columbus hosts two major league professional sports teams: the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL) and Columbus Crew SC of Major League Soccer (MLS).

Well, actually four languages.

Four! Really?! What languages do you know?
Besides my mother tongue, Persian, I know English, French and Russian well.

Interesting! And when did you learn them?
I began learning English at school when I was thirteen.
Then I began learning French in a language institute when I was fifteen. And I learned Russian when I was a university student in Moscow.

Can you use all of them fluently?
I know all of them well, but I use English more.

OK. Do you think language learning should start as early as possible?
My experience says interest and hard work are really more important than age.

Hmm… that’s an important point. May I know what your favorite language is? English, French, or Russian?
To be honest, I enjoy using them all, but my favorite language is absolutely my mother tongue!

They call him the Grey Man of Ben Macdui. He haunts Ben Macdui, the second highest summit in Scotland. People have found strange footprints in the snow. He’s supposed to be a very tall figure, covered with short hair, a bit like the Yeti of the Himalayas, and you can feel his presence when you walk up the mountain, alone.

These dark streets haven’t changed since the 17th century, and there are lots of dark stories about them: people say that murders and executions took place there, and many people died of the plague.  They say that a lot of supernatural things happened since, like ghost apparitions. The most famous ghost is the ghost of a young girl calledAnnie, who died of the plague a long time ago.

She’s supposed to be a very large creature, with a long narrow neck, a kind of dragon, or a prehistoric animal. She was first seen in the 7th century. In 1938, a man called Dr. Wilson was looking at the lake, when suddenly he saw the monster. He had a camera with him, so he tried to take pictures – but is this really Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster?

This is one of the most haunted places in Scotland. They say that in 1685, over 160 men, women and children died of hunger and cold in the dark dungeon. At night, if you come near Dunnottar Castle, you hear their cries. There have been many other apparitions, like a girl who was murdered there, a large dog, and a tall man who looked like a Scandinavian soldier.

Fairies are supernatural creatures that look human, usually with wings, but they have magical powers. If you stand by a waterfall in this green and wild Scottish landscape, you might see a fairy.

They raided the coasts of England,
braved the Atlantic Ocean to explore Greenland and North America.
They traded as far as the east of Russia and Constantinople.
They had their own laws and a parlament.
Vikings were skilled artists and poets.
Spartans come from a city-state in Ancient Greece.
At some point in historythis state became highly militarized and authoritarian.
All citizens had to go through a training programme from age of seven onwards.
Gradually their state became the most powerful Greece,
a center for solders and the military arts.
They warred with Athens and won a victory over it.
Spartans are supposed to have been simple, severe, without any attention to comfort.
They say that Spartans practised killing weak boys who were not fit to be soldiers,
by throwing them off the rock.
Indians were grouped into tribes that shared the same language and culture.
They were governed by meetings of elders.
Tribes were always ready to fight each other.
War called for individual leadership. In some areas the tribes gathered into
more permanent confederations under the rule of chiefs.
Some time ago these people were often seen as cruel and ruthless but nowadays
this point of view is not very popular. Indians suffered greatly from Europian settlers.
On some territories Indians were forced to leave their lands and to live on reservations.
