Scottish people celebrate their patron saint, Saint Andrew, on the 30th of November.
He was strong, friendly and fair.
His philosphy was simple: share what you have with those less fortunate and be kind one to another.
How do they celebrate?
With events, festivals about Scottish music, dance and food and drink.
Why not join in?
Enjoy a tasty dish of their traditional haggis with turnips and potatoes.
Try their shortbreads at tea-time.
Go and watch parades with bagpipes.
Be like Saint Andrew: share an act of kindness with someone else like buying a stranger a coffee or donating to a food bank.
If everyone in Scotland did something small, it would add up to create something really special.

In Scotland, clouds are invading the sky and it’s quite chilly for St Andrew’s Day. It’s 6 degrees in Edinburgh.
In England, in the north and in the centre, it’s raining and the sky is dull.
Similar weather in Northern Ireland.
Around London, it’s very foggy so be careful if you’re driving to work.
Good news to finish, in Wales and in the south of Ireland, it’s sunny and the temperature is mild. 14 degrees in Cardiff and 15 degrees in Dublin.

Two old friends are seeing each other for the first time since their recent trip.
- Hi Tom ! How are you ?
- I’m fine too, thank you. So, tell me ! How was your tour ?
- Oh, really ! How fun was it ?
- Did you take pictures of it ?
- Lucky you ! The landscapes are breathtaking.
- I have heard about it. You must have seen vibrant colours !
- And why were they used ?
- That’s so frightening ! I will never go there, trust me !!!
- So, did you enjoyed your jaunt ?
- I went to Seattle with my mum. She offered me this tour for my birthday.
- She is ! She absolutely wanted to drink a coffe in the first Starbucks of the world, created in 1971 !
- You said it ! Then, we walked along the seafront. It was calm and relaxing. It was a marvellous moment.
- How do you that ?! She told me that, when I was a child, I was scared of water. There was no way to put me in. I cried and shouted until my skin was dry again.
- And, during the evening, we had dinner in the Space Needle.
- No, idiot. It is an observation tower, standing at 184 meters, where you can eat and observe the landscape.
- My favourite outing was the Space Needle, of course ! What about you ?
Both laugh while continuing walking on the park.

Tom :
- Good morning Anna. I’m fine and you ?
- It was incredible. We went to Edinburgh with Polly, my bestfriend, during the summer holidays. We stayed 4 days there. We did a lot of activities. I have discovered a lot of things I did not know. For example, on Monday, we went to the Edinburgh castle.
- It was so great ! This castle is wonderful. As it is located on the top of a cliff, we had to walk for an hour before entering the castle. But the view inside was magical !!
- Of course ! Let me show you !
Tom shows the pictures to his friend.
- And that was just the beginning ! On Tuesday, we went to Arthur’s Seat, you know, the hill from where you can admire the sunset.
- We did ! It was a very powerful moment. After that, we visited Edinburgh’s vaults. They were created during the 18th century.
- In the beginning, the vaults were used for merchants and tradesmen. But then, they were a hotspot for the homeless and for criminal activity. The legend says that there are ghosts in here…
- Don’t worry, we did not meet any of them.
- Yes, it was unfamiliar. All the trip was unbelievable ! It was really interesting to discover a new culture. What about you ? Where did you go ?
- That’s so nice of her ! I hope she’s doing well.
- Hold on … The first Starbucks in the world was in Seattle ? What an amazing new !!
- Did your mother told you little family secrets there ?
- Ah ah ah, little darling !
- What is it ? A restaurant where you can eat noodles ?
- Oh, ok, I was completely wrong … So, what was your favourite outing ?
- The vaults were very absorbing, but I really enjoyed the castle too … I would say the castle. I think I was a prince in a previous life !

I've had so much fun ! My experience with global was so easy ! The team were very organized which made my trip a piece of cake. Moreover, I've had so much fun and met some wonderful people along the way.

Loved every day. I had such and amazing time here ! I had my very first white Christmas, I also learnt how to snowboard and ice-skate. That's why I would recommend it to anyone wanting a new adventure !

Hi! My name is Tom, I’m 23 and I’m in my final year at the University of Sheffield. I study Mathematics. I am outgoing, sporty and stubborn.
Today, I’m going to tell you about my favourite society, the Sheffield Rugby Club.

At the University of Sheffield, the SU has over 300 societies. I think societies are a great way to meet new people and make friends from different backgrounds and all over the world.

One society that I am a part of is the Sheffield Rugby Club. I have been a member since my first year at Uni and I have been playing rugby for 10 years.

We are a friendly rugby club that anyone can join. We have a number of very talented and dedicated players. The Club is great because we train twice a week on Mondays and Fridays and play once a week on Saturdays.
The club takes part in tournaments during the summer.

The club has given me the opportunity to make a number of long term friends, my rugby friends are my best friends at university. They are like family.

Moreover, the club helped me boost my skills and my CV because I was the treasurer of the club. I was responsible for the club’s money.

Finally, to any future students looking for tips, mine is simple – join societies. Societies are one of the best things about social life at university, you’ll have great fun and make friends for life.

Fred began to get in the groove, and things went more smoothly.
