Many critics argued that the reason why Sherlock Holmes achieved huge success in Late Victorian Age was his ability in solving puzzling cases: with this skill he embodied the character of the collective unconscious who ensured the regular course of justice, he reflected the confidence in the power of reason to dominate reality and eliminate the unknowns.
In an interview, Conan Doyle revealed: “The curious thing is how many people around the world are fervently convinced that Holmes is a human being. I get letters addressed to him, asking for his autograph… I get letters addressed to his other stupid friend, Watson... I’ve even had ladies writing to say that they would be very glad to be his housekeeper.”
Since people thought that Holmes was real, many of them addressed the older brother of Sidney Paget (the original illustrator for the stories) as Sherlock Holmes, because Sidney based his drawings off of him. They wore black bands on their arms when he 'died' and sent death threats to Conan Doyle because he 'killed' him.
The Strand Magazine carried most of Sherlock Holmes stories: the supposed death of the sleuth brought hundreds of cancellations.
Doyle was knighted ("Sir Arthur") in 1902 for his work in Boer War propaganda: he had written a short pamphlet titled The War in South Africa: Its Cause and Conduct, which justified the UK's imperialistic role in the Boer War and was widely translated. Yet, some said he was knighted because of the publication of The Hound of the Baskervilles.

(May 24th 2010) Haircutting

• Yesterday , I cut my dog`s hair.
• Usually , I cut my dog`s hair all by myself.
• To tell the truth/To be frank, it`s not easy for me, and sometimes it's tiresome /sometimes I get tired.
• But it makes me feel so good.
• When I finishedcutting hair, when I saw cleaned bodies, I used to be satisfied with what I had done.
• ^o^♪Haha~~smile delightedly / hugged myself ~``^o^♪Haha
• These days I`ve been sort of busy.(I was a little busy), so I didn`t /couldn`t cut hair.
• S~~o~~? Yesterday I took clippers and began to cut hair.
• Cutting two dogs, needed a / took a long time, but my 2 dogs are good dogs and they quietly, patiently waited.
• They can endure this amateur`s force. At last I finished and when I straightened up , "Aakkk~~" my back cried out in distress.
• But I felt was so good and fresh, as I looked at them, newly groomed.
• Then, after I put them in a bathtub, I washed them so they looked like laundry .
• Then after? All three of us were tired.

Hallam Foe is a 2007 Scottish drama film directed by David Mackenzie based on the novel written by Peter Jinks. The film was released in the United States as Mister Foe. The screenplay was written by Ed Whitmore and David Mackenzie.
Hallam Foe premiered at the Berlin Film Festival on 16 February 2007 and competed for the Golden Bear for Best Motion Picture. The film won the Silver Bear for Best Music.[citation needed]
Plot
Hallam Foe is a teenage loner who lives on his father's large estate near Peebles. His hobby is spying on people from his tree house. Hallam is convinced that his stepmother (Verity) is responsible for his mother's death by drowning two years earlier. Hallam's sister leaves home to attend university and it becomes clear that Verity and his father want Hallam to move on as well. Hallam initially refuses due to his suspicion of Verity, but she uses his diaries first to have sex with him and then to blackmail him into leaving. To escape his father and stepmother, Hallam travels to Edinburgh.
Upon arrival in Edinburgh, Hallam sees Kate, an administrator at the Balmoral Hotel, located in the city centre. Kate bears a striking resemblance to his late mother. He manages to persuade her to give him a job as a kitchen porter in the hotel. Hallam makes his home in the clock tower of the hotel because of its vantage point over Kate's home in a top flat, where he can spy on her. He also spies on Kate through a skylight on her roof, clambering over the roofscape to reach his vantage point.
Hallam learns that another senior hotel employee (Alasdair) is having an extra-marital affair with Kate. Alasdair then discovers Hallam's lookout in the clock tower. Hallam attempts to blackmail Alasdair with the knowledge of his adultery, but Alasdair dismisses him. Hallam retaliates by finding Alasdair's wife and child and thereby demonstrating the ability, if he wishes, to inform her of the affair, which forces Alasdair to give him back his job.
Hallam eventually works his way up to being a front-of-house porter at the hotel. On his 18th birthday, Kate invites Hallam to have a few drinks after work. Whilst drunk, Hallam reveals his continuing love for his late mother. This seems to fascinate Kate, as she "likes creepy guys". A complex relationship starts to build between Hallam and Kate from this point.
Kate first invites him home with her that night, and when she attempts to seduce him, he begins to get uncomfortable and instead they sleep in the same bed. The next day he asks her on a date and she rejects him, but later she asks him to one of the hotel rooms and they have sex.
When Hallam is watching Kate, Alasdair confronts her and begins to act violently. Hallam comes through the skylight to save her, which results in her finding out that he had been spying. She tells Alasdair to leave. She punishes Hallam by making him stand nude and explain to her why he was spying. She feels bad for him after he tells her about his mother and she lets him stay. She puts on the dress that Hallam keeps that used to be his mother's, and when Hallam sees her he cries, and they fall asleep together.
Hallam's father and stepmother track Hallam down at this time because Hallam had reported his suspicions about his mother's death to the police in Edinburgh. They track him down because his father has run up significant debts and needs to develop some of the land on the estate, but Hallam is entitled to consultation under his mother's will. Hallam refuses to co-operate due to his suspicion of Verity.
Hallam's hatred of Verity consumes him entirely, and he tries to drown her in the loch by his father's house. However, his humanity takes over and he revives her. Only at this point does his father reveal that he had made no attempt to prevent Hallam's mother from committing suicide. This revelation allows Hallam to realise that his anger is in fact with his mother for leaving him. This cathartic moment enables him to move on for the first time and we leave him happy and content walking the streets of Edinburgh.

嗯，昨天我剪了我两只狗的毛。 =
• 嗯，昨天我给我两条小狗剪了毛
• 用汉语 表示应该是 ‘剪狗发 ‘ 还是 ‘剪狗毛‘　？　哪个是对的？ 我估计“剪狗毛”可能是对的，是吧？
哈哈~~所以从现在我开始 讲讲我狗剪发的事情吧。
• (哈哈~~所以从现在开始我把我家狗狗剪毛的故事讲给大家听吧。)
• 我养了两条狗。它们名字分别是“ＢＥＴＴＴＹ（母狗）”　和“ＺＺＡＮＧＡ”（ＢＥＴＴＴＹ的儿子）。
• 一般都是我自己给我的狗剪毛。
• 因为这样既然省钱又可以/练习我剪狗毛的技术。 以前我在LANG-8已经提过了，在首尔如果要给剪两只狗剪毛的话至少要花10万块韩币.
当然这还要根据动物美容院的位置（ 不知道在中国怎么说，在韩国叫‘动物美容院‘）美容师技术的高低以及狗的种类、体重等等来判断。 上面我说的价格是按照我家狗的体重。
• 和最普通的宠物美容院的价格表来对照的。
所以我自己剪２～３次后才去一趟找专门剪슈나우져 雪纳瑞（ ‘schnauzer‘）的美容员。
• 哈哈～～我不仅给我自己的狗修剪毛，而且还帮我妹妹的狗修剪。
• 因为她的狗跟我的狗是同样的种类。
• 我把狗剪成了很奇怪的样子然后我们（妹妹和我）带着３只狗去找　专门雪纳瑞美容师。
那～～专门schnauze. • 那～～专门schnauzer美容师拿着剪刀修剪了一下，狗狗们就完全变了个样，变得帅帅的、很得意的样子。
• 最近这几个月我比较忙没时间去找专门的美容师，而且我一个人剪这两只狗的毛实在不容易，觉得麻烦，所以没有给它们剪毛。 它们几乎变成了小熊的样子了。 所以－－－－昨天我下定 。
• 下午我举起了理发剪子 和快速帆船 [kuài sù fān chuán] 开始动手了.（哈哈。。不是动手术。）说实话，BETTY是很乖的，可以一动也不动地等１～２个小时。 非常有耐性。不过ZZANGA跟BETTY有点不同，爱动。 不过最近它也可以忍耐着等了。 可能上了年纪了吧！ 哈哈。。。儿子慢慢学妈妈，变懂事了？
哎呀～～～终于剪完了。伸着我的腰，不知不觉地呀呀呀呀～～呻吟[shēn yín]的声音出来了。＠•＿＠；不过，虽然我的腰很酸疼，但是我的心情舒畅多了！• 一看变干净的ZZANGA和BETTY，　哇～～～我的心情就很舒服！爽快！　
剪完后，把两只狗都干脆丢进去放了热水的浴缸里，像洗衣服似的把它们使劲地洗洗搓搓[cuō]。
• 这样昨天的下午都过去了。一个下午就这样过去了

Conan Doyle was friends for a time with Harry Houdini, the American magician who himself became a prominent opponent of the Spiritualist movement in the 1920s following the death of his beloved mother. Although Houdini insisted that Spiritualist mediums employed trickery (and consistently exposed them as frauds), Conan Doyle became convinced that Houdini himself possessed supernatural powers—a view expressed in Conan Doyle's The Edge of the Unknown. Houdini was apparently unable to convince Conan Doyle that his feats were simply illusions, leading to a bitter public falling out between the two.
Conan Doyle was also a passionate advocate for diverse causes: in 1906 and 1908 he began investigating two closed cases until he obtained the exoneration of the innocent men.
By 1920 Doyle was one of the most highly paid writers in the world. He died of a heart attack in 1930; he was 71 years old.

Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh on May 22, 1859; he was educated at Stonyhurst School, spent a year in Austria and then took a degree in medicine at Edinburgh University in 1885. In Jun 1882 he went to Portsmouth where he began a medical practice in Southsea: at first it wasn’t very successful so Conan Doyle began writing stories while waiting for patients. A Study in Scarlet, the first work featuring the character of Sherlock Holmes, was published in 1887.
During the South African war (1899-1902) Doyle served for a few months as senior physician at a field hospital. In 1900 and 1906 he ran unsuccessfully for Parliament as a Liberal Unionist. He was knighted in 1902. Fourteen months after his wife died, Conan Doyle married in 1907 his second wife, Jean Leckie. He dedicated himself in spiritualistic studies after the death of his son Kingsley from wounds incurred in World War I. An example of these is The coming of fairies, in which he supported the existence of "little people" and spent more than a million dollars on their cause. He also became president of several important spiritualist organizations.

Sports shoes that work out whether their owner has done enough exercise to warrant time in front of the television have been devised in the UK. The shoes, dubbed Square eyes, contain an electronic pressure sensor and tiny computer chip to record how many steps the wearer has taken in a day. A wireless transmiter passes the information to a receiver connected to a television, and this decides how much evening viewing time the wearer deserves, based on the day's exertions. The design was inspired by a desire to combat the rapidly ballooning waistlines among British teenagers, says Gillian Swan, who developed Square Eyes as a final-year design project at Brunel University in London, UK. "We looked at current issues and childhood obesity really stood out", she says. "And I wanted to tackle that with my design." Once a child has used up their daily allowance gained through exercise, the television automatically switches off. And further time in front of the TV can only be earned through more steps.
Existing pedometers normally clip onto a belt or slip into a pocket and keep count of steps by measuring sudden movement. Swan says these can easily be tricked into recording steps through shaking. But her shoe has been built to be harder for lazy teenagers to deceive. " It is possible, but it would be a lot of effort", she says. "That was one of my main design considerations."

모두 안녕하세요? 오늘 서울 하늘엔 구름이 가득하여 낮게 가라앉았어요. 우울한 날씨죠. 이렇게 흐린 날씨는 사람들을 우울하게 만들죠. 화이팅! 아자아자! 기운을 냅시다!
 솔직히 말하자면 지난 수요일 축령산 등산 이야기를 하고 싶은데 지금 바로 나가야 하므로 그 이야기는 다음에 해 드릴게요. (오늘 밤이나 내일쯤..?)
 그래서 지금은 이야기 대신 축령산 철쭉꽃과 나무들 사진만 대신 보여 드릴게요. 안녕히 계셔요!
 오, 저는 눈병이 걸린 것 같아요. 오늘 아침 일어 나니 눈에 눈곱이 잔뜩 끼었어요. 혹시 이건 봄 등산의 선물인가요? 아무래도 안과에 가 봐야겠죠?
