Last week, my family moved to a new flat. It’s on the 11th floor. This new flat is bigger than the old one. It has got three bedrooms, a big living room and a nice kitchen. I like it because I can see the city from the balcony. On the 1st night, I had a strange dream. I lost my bike. And then my grandma bought me a new one. But on the next day, I was very happy because I still saw my old bike. Now I often ride a bike when I have free time.

The Civil War.
By the 1850s, the Industrial Revolution had completely reached the United States. Northern States rapidly became industrialized, while the South remained almost completely reliant on agriculture. Many southern states were against the idea that a single, central government in Washington, D.C. should make decisions for the North and South alike, considering they were such different regions. Perhaps the most important decision was a “State’s Right” to continue slavery. In 1861, seeing that slavery would be nationally abolished, 7 states left the US to create the Confederate States of America. Joined quickly by 4 more states, their army would go to war with the Union Army, made up of northern states. This war put neighbors, cousins, and even brothers against each other, meaning there were always enemies around.
Also, the Industrial Revolution allowed for the mass production of guns, which evolved from rifles firing 3 shots-per-minute with a 100-meter limit, to guns firing 30 shots-per-minute with a 1000-meter range. With rapidly changing guns, and relatively unchanging tactics, the US experienced its deadliest domestic war, with over 620,000 dead. The Civil War officially ended in 1865 with the South’s surrender.

Louisiana , a former slave state
Louisiana used to be a former slave state. A slave state is a state where slavery was permitted.
Black slaves were forced to work in cotton fields or sugar cane fields gratis . They worked for a planter: a white man who possessed the plantation.
In the fields, when they were working, Black slaves sang special songs to find courage. These songs were blues songs. Before the arrival of the Black slaves blues didn't exist in the U.S so ,we can say that Black slaves invented blues.
Planters used to live in big white houses on their plantation.
Nowadays, even if plantations don't exist anymore, we can still admire this white architecture that symbolizes this dark period.

From the 18th century until the Civil War ( 1861-1865) *, with more than 1,600 plantations Louisiana became an important slave state.These huge properties produced cotton and sugar cane . With an economy based on the use of Black slaves imported from Africa, white planters became immensely rich and built enormous housesrecognizable thanks to their whitecolumns and white verandas.
In the plantation fields, Black slaves sang songs and ballads of their suffering…to get some courage… An original sound was rising from the cotton fields : Blues was born.
In 1865 the end of the Civil War marked the end of slavery. Slavery was forbidden, black slaves were freed and a lot of planters were ruined.
Yet, today , even if plantations don't exist anymore, we can still admire these white mansions, an architectural heritage from this dark period.

Yesterday, I went to the swimming pool in the morning. Then, I went to the supermarket by bus. I bought a CD and a new toothbrush. I had lunch in the café. I ate spaghetti and drank soda. In the afternoon, I went to the cinema with my sister. I saw a good film.
