Australia is the only country in the world that covers an entire continent, but amazingly it’s also an island! An island continent, fancy that!
Certainly the largest island in the world. It is rather large at 4,779,602 square miles
(7,692,024 km²). If you had to fly from Perth to Brisbane, it would take about 5 hours. This
makes it 22 times bigger than the UK. Wow!
More than 22 million people live in Australia, which actually isn’t that many when you
consider its size.
More than two thirds of the country is desert, called the ‘Outback’. There must be a serious amount of sand there…

Kings and Queens of England.

Who can be the monarch of England?
In England, you become a king or a Queen when you are the first child of a Monarch.
Today, The Queen is Queen Elizabeth II because she is King George’s first daughter. The Queen’s husband cannot become the King. (Elizabeth’s husband was her cousin, Philip Mountbatten. He was called Prince Philip, the Queen’s consort. He died in 1921, so she is a widow now. )
Elizabeth’s sister is dead, too. Her name was princess Margaret. The Queen’s siblings cannot become king or queens because the Queen has children. So the next monarch can be one of Elizabeth’s children.
Elizabeth has 4 children : Charles, Ann, Andrew and Edward. Charles, Prince of Wales, is the next King in line because he is Elizabeth’s first son.
Charles is also a widow because his late wife Lady Diana is dead, too, but he has 2 sons: William and Harry. So, after Charles, the next King to be is William. William is very popular and he already has 3 heirs to the throne: George, Charlotte and Louis.
When Charles becomes the king, his second wife, Camilla Parker Bowles can become the Queen consort.

Mountain gorillas

There are only about 900 gorillas now in the world and they are one of the rarest animals in Africa. For many people, the gorillas aren’t pretty or beautiful. Some people say they have ugly faces. It’s true, they are a dull colour – black or grey – and they aren’t colourful creatures like butterflies.

But they are some of the most interesting animals in the world. If we protect these amazing creatures, they can become more common again.

Vertebrates
Vertebrates are animals with backbones. The following groups are the different types of vertebrates

Fish
Fish are cold-blooded animals and they live in water. They have got scales and fins. They haven’t got lungs. They have got gills instead.

Mammals
All mammals are warm-blooded and they feed their babies milk. Most mammals live on land, for example humans and dogs. However, some mammals, like whales, live in water, but they haven’t got gills. Mammals have all got lungs.

Birds
Birds live on land, but some of them look for food in water. They have got feathers, two legs and two wings. Some birds like ostriches and kiwis can’t fly. All birds lay eggs.

Amphibians
When amphibians are young, they live in water and they haven’t got lungs. When they are adult, they have got lungs and four legs, for example, frogs and toads.

Reptiles
Most reptiles live on land. They have got lungs and scales, but not gills. They haven’t got any wings or feathers, and they haven’t got any hair. They are cold-blooded animals and many of them live in warm places.
