Have you ever felt ill before you have to talk in front of a group of people? Have you ever started to sweat profusely when giving a presentation? Or have you ever felt like you had cotton in your mouth when you speak to people? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you have trouble controlling your nerves. Most people get nervous just before they have to give their presentation, so in the following section we will give you a few tips about how to better control your nerves. When you are nervous your muscles tighten up, so the best thing to do is stretch them out. Here are some exercises that can be done anywhere.
About ten minutes before your presentation: To relieve tension in your head and neck, clasp your hands behind your head and push back on your hands. To stretch your body, sit in a chair, pull your knee up, and touch your forehead to your knee. Repeat this on both sides. To stretch your back and spine, sit in a chair and twist your upper body while keeping your knees and feet facing forward. Repeat this on both sides. Last-minute nerves: Nerves usually hit you just before your presentation. The best way to eliminate these nerves is to breathe. Close your eyes and take several deep breaths. Inhale deeply and exhale completely. And for some last-minute stretches, loosen up your facial muscles. First, squeeze your eyes shut and tense your forehead and mouth muscles. Hold this for twenty to thirty seconds. Then open your mouth and eyes as wide as you can.
