IT’S THE STORY OF A TALENT
“Except for a gangster or a politician, the only thing you can do without qualifications is become an artist.”
Coluche started his career as a singer. He used to sing popular songs in cafés.
Then he created « Le Café de la Gare » with Romain Bouteille, an actor and a humorist too. « Le café de la gare » was a comedy troup that played in café-théatres*. « Le Café de la Gare » also launched celebrities like Jacques Brel, Jean Ferrat, Raymond Devos, Patrick Dewaere, Miou Miou, Gérard Depardieu, Renaud, Anémone, Josiane Balasko, Thierry Lhermitte and Gerard Jugnot.
Coluche quickly became very famous as a humorist. He launched a new style. He had no rules. He dared say out loud what others were thinking. His sketches were based on criticism and parody. He liked criticizing advertisement. He also liked criticizing politicians. He didn’t hesitate to be hard on some personalities. He had his own vocabulary and he used to say: « I’m rude, but never vulgar ».
His first sketch “C’est l’histoire d’un mec” became a popular success. It’s the story of a guy who had difficulties telling a funny story.
But alcohol problems forced Coluche to leave his group. He then founded another group “Le vrai chic parisien”. But again his behaviour and addictions forced him to leave the group.
Coluche was also sacked by two radio stations for vulgarity.
He then started a solo career. He started wearing his famous trademark outfit: white tennis shoes, blue striped overalls, a yellow t-shirt and round glasses.
