Ах, я сделал ошибку! (This is what happens when you stop studying Russian for 3 months...) I wanted to say "I spent my vacation" - I should've used "проводить", not "требовать". For some reason, I was thinking "to take time", not "spend time". Does this sentence make sense?

Well, I see now. In this case we'd say Я провел отпуск. The infinitive is проводить, and in the past We have Я провел. And with the islands we use preposition на:на Гавайях, на Кубе, на Кипре...

In the first sentence, we'd rather say I asked to give me a vacation Я попросил дать мне отпуск. It sounds more natural to use ask here instead of demand-требовал.
