The suffragettes' motto was "deeds, not words". So, to win the right to vote, the Suffragettes organized some radical actions
like chaining themselves to railings,
smashing windows,
huge demonstrations,
setting post-boxes to fire,
destroying some art works
and hunger strikes.
The police got violent ; Emmeline and other Suffragettes were arrested. They went on hunger strikes and were force-fed.
The movement was no longer peaceful but more and more radical.
Re-recorded to change the pronunciation of "Emmeline". I hope this works better for you.
