I worked in Alfax Ltd, it’s a department store in Manchester.
There were about 20 people working there. There were mostly men in position of responsibility, but a few women too.
I worked on my own, most of the time, but I didn’t mind.
I really liked the people I was working with. Let me tell you about them.
Mr Banks is the chairman of the company and also the chief buyer.
He is a very nice fellow. He is very hard-working.
Mr Stevenson is the Finance department head. He was quite strict and distant.
Ms Gates is the sales manager. I was working with her. She is responsible for the sales organization and policy. She was very helpful. I felt confident working with her.
Mr Riggs who is the chief accountant, was very nice too and I felt at ease with him.
Mrs Garner is head of human ressources. I got on well with her and with Mr Mac Coy who is the director of the Production department. They are both very
sociable and efficient.
As far as the clerks are concerned, the administration was composed of three secretaries,
three accountants, a receptionist and Miss Williams, who is Mr Bank’s personal assistant.
Most of them liked their job. There was a very good relationship between the manager and the workers. Most of them liked their job. There was a very good relationship between the manager and the workers.
