Seoul was aglow over the weekend with the annual Lotus Lantern Festival ahead of Buddha's Birthday, which falls on Tuesday this year.

The festivities drew large crowds to view the some 20,000 lanterns lining the streets.

A lotus lantern parade started at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Dongguk University and headed to Jogye Temple, the headquarters of the nation's largest Buddhist sect. A post-parade celebration was held at the Bosingak Bell Pavilion until 11 p.m.

The celebrations continued through Sunday, with another parade in downtown Seoul in the evening.
