Hi there. The text is from a test not written by native speakers of English, so I think there might remain grammatical mistakes or phrases which sound unnatural to you. If so, please feel free to alter them.
In my opinion, “They sing well. I can roll a ball, and Molly reads a book. … We have an exciting birthday party.” should be in the present continuous because these actions are taking place today. I mean, “They are singing well. I can roll a ball, / I am rolling a ball and/while Molly is reading a book. … We are having an exciting birthday party.”
My students are in their 4th grade, so please help me make two separate recordings for the text – one at your normal/natural speed, and the other at your slow speed.
I think the recording with your normal speed will be useful to their listening practice because it will be challenging enough, and hopefully they will not be bored! Meanwhile, the recording with your slow one will help them differentiate different sounds, and thereby enable them to copy your pronunciation.
Thank you in advance!
MY BEST FRIEND
Hi everyone, my name is Lumpy. Molly is my best friend. She often stays at home with me in the evening, but today we are at Molly’s grandma’s house. There are a lot of birds in her grandma’s garden. They sing well. I can roll a ball, and Molly reads a book. Her grandma is making a cake because today is Molly’s birthday. We have an exciting birthday party. I love Molly and her family.
Thanks so much for your great help! I wonder if you have any opinion in terms of grammar in the original text, Sir.
